There have been rumblings for a while now that Marvel Studios has big plans for Chris Evans' Captain America in the MCU. We've already heard chatter about a Human Torch cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine (not to mention the actor's long-awaited return as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Secret Wars), but how about a TV show?
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, a limited series is in development for Disney+ which will revolve around Captain America returning the Infinity Stones to their correct place in time following the events of Avengers: Endgame.
This is a story fans have long said they want to see, and a show like this would be a good way to make Marvel Studios' streaming offering feel like must-watch event TV again (which was the case when WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier launched in 2021).
We've heard about possible plans for this TV show before, so here's hoping it's finally moving forward. If past reports are to be believed, it could even be the mystery Marvel project being produced by Scarlett Johansson.
This isn't the only rumour we have to share today, though, as Taken and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace icon Liam Neeson has reportedly joined the MCU in a mystery role.
Understandably, there's already speculation that he's been cast as Doctor Doom or Galactus in The Fantastic Four, but nothing - including Neeson's casting - has been made official at this stage. Heck, for all we know, he's voicing H.E.R.B.I.E. with that trademark deadpan humour of his!
Donald Glover, who played Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming, is also being eyed for an MCU return. However, rather than playing Prowler, it sounds like Kevin Feige is eager to enlist the actor's skills as a writer.
Janelle Monàe, best known for her work in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Moonlight, is also on Marvel Studios' radar, albeit for an acting role (likely in the X-Men reboot). We'll see what happens there.
Last November, Evans was asked about the rumours he's gearing up to play Captain America and said, "You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me."
"I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting Downey, and [Chris] Hemsworth, and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!"
He added, "No one’s spoken to me about it. And look, I would never say never, but I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right."
