This could have been really awesome with a more competent writer.
Sounds like something an intern wrote at lunch.

Meh.
More liberal hipster "humor."
We get it. Your Ashamed of your country & yourselves for living in it.
Now go march for "reproductive rights" or illegal immigration or some other
Douche cause. Or better yet, march your asses to Canada, or Mexico & leave the rest of us to enjoy the blessings of this great country.

Happy July 4, CBM! God bless you & God bless the United States of America.
F*ck yeah!

I think it was totally effective. We are so caught up with American exceptionalism that we think we are God's gift to the world. When our president says things like "God bless the greatest country in the world", there is no evidence to support that statement and probably infuriates the rest of the planet when we feel we can make such a bold statement.

Funny. Although I must say that the U.S. has the most Nobel laureates (346) of any country, so by one measure they're the smartest. They have the most Olympic medals (2,681) of any country, so by one measure, they're the most athletic. People like to hate (and everyone hates the U.S., because they have the highest GDP - BY FAR! - double China, three times Japan and five times the net worth of Germany, just to compare them to the next highest countries), but you can make statistics sing any song you want them to sing. I look at the individual man. And Steve Rogers is a hell of a man. God bless Captain America!

*yawn* not funny.
I would have thought an Irishman could appreciate the celebration of throwing off the oppression of the old British empire.
Here is a real taste of what America is about:

I thought 'merica was founded on the idea that rich, white, slave-owning men didn't want to pay their taxes - not sure how freedom came into that mix.

Well that was weird, and sadly true. But there is still no other nation I'd rather live in. But with the direction America is headed in, it won't be desirable for long. But I still think it can be turned around.

P.S. Thanks @Bodwulf I don't know where you got that quote, but I like it.

I think you need to learn a little more about American history. Yes slavery was a problem. But yes, freedom was in that "mix".

To paraphrase Churchill :
America is the worst country in the world,
except for all the others.

@ajc. The king collected taxes from the new colonies. The colonies were not allowed to send representatives to Britain to speak for the needs of the colonies. All the money went to the British Empire. None was returned to finance the needs of the colonies. The colonies revolted against taxation without representation. The colonies became free from the British Empire.
