CAPTAIN MARVEL: Kevin Feige Teases A Different Take On Mar-Vell And Why He's Not The Focus Of The Movie

We know that Jude Law is playing Mar-Vell in the upcoming Captain Marvel but Kevin Feige has now told fans they should expect a slightly different take on the character and explains why he's not the lead.

Jude Law being cast to play Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel is awesome news but those of you hoping to suit up and join Carol Danvers in the fight against the Kree and Skrulls may be disappointed. That's because Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has seemingly confirmed in a new interview that the movie will be deviating from the source material when it comes to how the character is portrayed.

Mar-Vell has a very complicated and convoluted origin story in the comic books and like many fans, Feige wasn't that knowledgeable about him before the hero ended up becoming part of the movie.

"I knew some about him," he admitted, "but it was definitely Carol Danvers who was most interesting to us and why we choose her. But as that character connects to the origin of Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel? We’re pulling from some of that for inspiration." It sounds like changes will indeed be made then and that's far from the end of the world when you stop and think about it.

After all, while Mar-Vell is a very cool character, it would be much better for the focus to remain on Carol even if that means he doesn't suit up as well (something tells me he will, though). What do you think about these Captain Marvel remarks? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

He's not the focus of the film because the film isnt about him.

@SupermansTrunks - i understand that but Marvell is so important to Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel's origin. He is as important as Superman is to Supergirl. Imagine if DC were to make a Supergirl film and Superman is sidelined or less than 30% of the film. The film should technically be 50/50 or 60/40 if they want to respect the source material.

Marvell's inclusion to the plot should be as vital as Steve Trevor in WW. If he is just a brief cameo like Iron Man in SM:H it will be disappointing.

@mastakilla39 - Of course his role is substantial but this is carols movie and not his

Simple Carol is more popular and Mar-Vell hasnt done anything big in the comics in decades.

@dracula - And why would that be... hmmm... let me think.... Oh yes, because he is dead since 1994. He gets resurrected from time to time but only for 1 to 4 issues max. Hard to do anything big with so little space and with lazy writers.

@StaffordR - Did not know he has been dead for so long, surprising considering how often heroes come back to life in both companies, the longest deaths I could think of are Barry Allen/The Flash and Kara Zor El/Supergirl

@dracula - Also, let's face it, they REALLY wanted a film with a female lead. There's just no two ways around it.

@ThePanther - Intense might be the better word

@Toffee - I can tell you the location of the soul stone if you want. Which I think is possibly the best part of the whole movie

I do love Captain Mar-Vell and normally hate legacy characters taking over the mantle but going with Carol is the right choice now and in the future. The character has earned the mantle and has by this point had so many more adventures and has become more interesting. Mar-Vell has been dead for 36 years and before that was only around for about 14 years. Glad some form of the character at least made the first movie though.

Why we’re not going with Mar-Vell said Feige. We’re desperate for a lead female character, that’s why.

Give him the Mahr Vehl personality please, it would play out great in the film and make much more sense with the 90's setting.

I kinda figured this would be the case. Mar-Vel is a plot device in the comics as well.
