Marvel Studios'
Captain Marvel, which stars Academy Award-winner Brie Larson (
Avengers: Endgame) in the title role, is soaring back to the top of the box office with approximately $68 million to $70 million in its second weekend, becoming the first 2019 to top $200 million domestically.
Once the international numbers come in tomorrow, the Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck-directed blockbuster will have earned well over $700 million worldwide, possibly $750 million, and should be on the fast track to topping $1 billion globally, becoming the seventh Marvel Studios film to reach the milestone. It will also officially become the highest-grossing film of 2019, overtaking CMC's
The Wandering Earth ($692.6M).
As for the newcomers, Paramount's animated adventure
Wonder Park, which features the voice talents of Mila Kunis (
The Spy Who Dumped Me) and Jennifer Garner (
Peppermint), should finish in second place with $17 million to $18 million while CBS Films' romantic drama
Five Feet Apart, which stars Haley Lu Richardson (
Support The Girls) and Cole Sprouse (
Riverdale), will round out the top three with $13 million to $14 million.
