THE MARVELS Star Lashana Lynch Discusses Potentially Joining The X-MEN As MCU's Binary (Exclusive)

Talking to us about her role in Bob Marley: One Love, Lashana Lynch reflects on The Marvels' post-credits scene and how it feels to - potentially - become a card-carrying member of Marvel Studios' X-Men...

In The Marvels' post-credits scene, Lashana Lynch played yet another Variant of Maria Rambeau and met her daughter from Earth-616 after she arrived in a world a version of the X-Men calls home.

The actor first played the character in Captain Marvel and later reprised the role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for a battle with the Scarlet Witch as Earth-838's Captain Marvel. After appearing in flashbacks in The Marvels, she then appeared in the aforementioned stinger as Binary.

The sequence appeared to suggest that this Maria is a member of the X-Men, a huge development which will likely play out in Deadpool & Wolverine or the next Avengers movies.

This week, we spoke with Lynch about her incredible work in Bob Marley: One Love. During the conversation, The Marvels star also shared her feelings about potentially joining that iconic team of mutants for her next MCU adventure.

"I mean, even that sentence, I’m like, 'Am I?'" she responded when we talked about Binary being a member of the X-Men. "That’s not a sentence that’s been put to me at all; we’ve not had a conversation about that. I dipped in for, I think a day. I think I had one day on that film which is wild for it to be so impactful. I was there for a day because I was on Matilda at the time, so that’s wild."

"I don’t know. I don’t know. I used to find it a little bit of a hindrance to not know as I like to know what’s coming and plan, but I love now that I don’t know," Lynch continued. "I love that I didn’t know that was happening. That’s something that came across time as a slow plan. Well, for me, anyway. They probably had it planned the whole time."

"I genuinely don’t know what’s next, but I think with where the franchise is going, it’s naturally going to be exciting. And I’m excited to see where it goes next."

The actor also talks to us about bonding with co-star Kingsley Ben-Adir (Secret Invasion) about their respective MCU roles and you can hear more on that in the player above. We'll also be sharing the full transcription of our Bob Marley: One Love conversation tomorrow.

Celebrate the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love, peace, and unity. In One Love, discover Bob Marley's powerful story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music that changed the world.

Bob Marley: One Love is now available to buy or rent on Digital from Paramount Home Entertainment and debuts on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on May 28.

I think she will just be a defender of THAT universe. But not necessarily an xmen.

How come there are comments turned on for this "exclusive" but off for the others? Perhaps you want more rage bait for Marvels? It's so obvious... Or maybe you're a Emile Hirsch simp haha

Rogue needs to take out Brie Larson, not the wannabe Brie Larson.

@HashTagSwagg - Not going to lie though, the only reason I’d want Binary in more X-Men content is if she was the stand in for Ms Marvel and Rogue put her in the hospital taking her powers.

@mountainman - But then we'd be stuck with Brie, there's only so many times they can use the "she's off world" excuse.

@HashTagSwagg - I doubt she sticks around in the MCU much longer. She’s likely contractually obligated to be in the next Avengers movies, but I doubt she stays on longer than that.

Probably wants her hero sacrifice like Widow, Iron Man, and Cap. Problem is that it won’t have an impact on the audience like those did.

@mountainman @hashtagswagg - I'll take either scenario but I feel Carol needs a good arc that makes her sympathetic to the audience. Losing her powers will do that

While her civil war 2 arc will only make people not like her character more

@Vigor - "Carol needs a good arc that makes her sympathetic to the audience"
I think Disney Marvel would have an easier time getting a Blade movie out the door than trying to attempt that feat.

@Vigor - Maybe. Not sure if it would work. My thoughts if this happened soon, it would be Anna Paquin Rogue getting powered up and the impacts would only last through Secret Wars. Doubt there is much time to explore Carol’s journey during this time. They are building up right now and doubt they want too many side narratives introduced.

You could play Rogue’s story out for longer post Secret Wars reboot. Have her take Carol’s powers while she is still a villain. But is Brie going to still want to be in the MCU 5-10 years from now to play that story out?

@mountainman - all good points. I have no rebuttals lol

mountainman - 3/22/2024, 11:48 AM
@Vigor - Only counter argument is that if Brie Larson does want out of the MCU, as has been rumored, it actually could be an epic end for the character. Maybe rogue kills her vs puts her in the hospital. Seems like a bold
move but it could be impactful.

Would be pretty unnecessary to add non xmen characters to the xmen roster hen there are 100's of others to choose from.

@Ryguy88 - Some people will argue that Binary was on the X-Men roster once. But those people don’t realize that she would never make anybody’s list of top 100 X-Men characters of all time.

With how popular X-Men 97 is proving to be, you would think Disney would take notice and ensure the MCU X-Men have an iconic roster. Doesn’t have to be exactly the same as the animated roster, but there are like 50-100 X-Men more known for being on the team than Binary.

If we are getting a bunch of Fox-Men revivals and random variant cameos leading up to Secret Wars, I guess she can be a member of the team, but nobody is going to care.

Nah, only need Storm and Bishop on the team.

Someone should probably just send a mega nuke through a wormhole to that Earth and be done with it.
