Let's hear it for Captain America!

Deadline is reporting that Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter SoldierAvengers: Endgame) has closed his deal to return as the titular hero in Marvel Studios' untitled Captain America 4

Further details about the potential plot and cast are being kept under wraps, but last we heard, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman had been tapped to pen the screenplay alongside TFATWS staff writer Dalan Musson.

At this point in time, it's unclear whether co-star Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier; Avengers: Endgame) will be joining him, but based on the ending of their recently wrapped miniseries, it would be pretty surprising if he didn't return in some leading capacity.

It's also believed that Daniel Brühl (Baron Zemo), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Adepero Oduye (Sarah Wilson), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent), and/or Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine) could reprise their roles, but it's all speculation for now.

For Mackie, this new film will mark his eighth appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sam Wilson, following Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of UltronAnt-ManCaptain America: Civil WarAvengers: Infinity WarAvengers: Endgame, and the aforementioned The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

It's unclear when this project could head into production, but with their lead locked down, it seems like Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios may want this to move forward sooner rather than later, possibly even as a launching pad for the swiftly approaching Phase 5.

@Frshcoupe - I can't wait to hear who the villain is. Modok? Sin? Thunderbolts?

I really like Anthony Mackie and Sam, but I'm worried about the script. I thought TFATWS's writing was kinda subpar. I hope they bring other writers to work on it

@ClipClop - I see this a lot on this site but I just don't get it. I may be in the minority but aside from the villain, I actually really loves TFATWS.

@ClipClop - Agreed, good guy and great character but the Disney + show was less than average and that was no fault of the actors and actresses involved who’ve all shone in their other appearances.

@ClipClop - Im iffy on it, I thought some of the the themes like racial injustice were handled quite well and the arc for both Bucky and Sam were as well. Its was the antagonist plot that got short changed (I dont even remember what the were trying to do tbh) so hopefully if there is a singular villain that would make things a lot tighter. Spreading things out between the Flag Smashers, Walker, The Power Broker, and Zemo (sort of) meant most of them didnt really get fleshed out aside from Zeo who we already knew and John Walker

@ClipClop - I won't lie, I haven't seen anything else with Mackie aside from that movie on Netflix which I wasn't a fan of. But I've really liked him in the MCU, so I feel like he fully deserves his own movie.

@SnideCut - I liked Falcon and Winter Soldier. But it has been my least favorite MCU show so far. I'd still watch that over most other shows though.

For me, it just felt like there should have been more to it. None of the episodes felt like they were really moving the story along all that much, except a couple.

And I was kinda pissed Zemo wasn't the villain. I thought we were going to see a masked up Zemo tearing things down. And I thought that based on all the advertising they did going all the way back to Comic Con.

@SnideCut - Yup, I loved it. There was a few pacing issues here and there but overall....absolutely loved it. The chemistry between Mackie and Stan is top tier.

@ClipClop - I think Spellman will do better on a movie than show. With TFATWS, it felt like they had solid outline for a two hour movie, but had trouble stretching it into 6 episodes.

@ClipClop - I hate to agree because I love all the talent involved in the show. Heck they even brought Batroc back! But something just felt... undercooked about the whole show. I'm fairly sure COVID [frick]ing up most of their plans and shooting schedule contributed a lot to it, but it felt like the entire show just never went all in on any of it's ideas. Flagsmashers never really were a threat, Powerbroker was just there and a weak reveal, US Agent kinda goes off the deep end for one scene and kills one guy then it's kind of just swept aside, the whole GRC thing is never really explained successfully, Bucky never really lets loose, Sam has one big scene at the start and one at the end, and is grounded for the whole rest of the show, Zemo was great but again, that jail break out scene? so rushed. He strings them along a bit and then... goes to jail again. It just screams that Spellman was either too scared to go "all in" on some of these concepts, or Marvel severely hindered him. And we all know about the cut virus subplot that was dropped because of COVID. The hole that left is obvious.

Interesting, this will add even more D+ subscribers lol Netflix might be in trouble 5 years from now. All the classic shows are on their own apps now, and their original content is about one goodie per 10 crap stacks. GF Netflix lol bring back Blockbuster! Also pre ordered Candyman tickets woo hoo!!

Really surprised he wasn't already contracted for this. Because what happens if he didn't want to do it?

Marvel just set him up as the new cap, maybe shoulda got him to commit before lol

@Nightwing1015 - I think they always planned for him to come back as Cap, but I don't think they originally planned for it to be in a Cap film. More like an Avengers movie
