Lashana Lynch has joined the cast of Netflix's upcoming musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilada as Miss Honey.
We found out early last year that the streaming giant had partnered with Sony's Tri-Star Pictures to develop a feature adaptation of Tim Minchin and Dennis Kelly's hugely successful Matilda the Musical, which has been playing in London's West End since 2011. The movie will be produced by Working Title and helmed by the musical's original director, Matthew Warchus.
Matilda is expected to get a theatrical run before premiering on Netflix, but no dates have been confirmed.
Dahl's classic children's tale tells the story of "a precocious and gifted 5-year-old, who uses her powers of telekinesis to overcome bullies, including her family and her school's principal, and protect her friends." The book was previously adapted for a 1996 film, which featured Embeth Davidtz in the Miss Honey Role.
Lynch played Maria Rambeau in Marvel Studio's Captain Marvel, and will inherit the 007 mantle from James Bond in No Time To Die this April. Her Matilda character, Miss Honey, is a kind-hearted teacher who encourages her student to use her powers. Ralph Fiennes is also on board as the ruthless Miss Trunchbull, but Matilda herself has yet to be cast.
