Since wrapping up work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Stephanie Beatriz has made a lot of exciting choices as an actor, including a role in musical In The Heights and the lead part in Encanto. Next up for her is Catwoman: Hunted; in that animated feature, Beatriz takes on the role of Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman.
After previously expressing interest in playing both She-Hulk and Batwoman in live-action, Beatriz's name frequently comes up in relation to all manner of superhero roles. A quick look on Google even reveals fan-art of the actor as everyone from Ghost Rider to Spider-Woman and America Chavez!
While chatting about Catwoman: Hunted earlier this week, we asked Beatriz if she'd like to reunite with In The Heights co-star Leslie Grace to play a live-action Batwoman in Batgirl. Failing that, would she be interested in playing another Marvel or DC superhero (or supervillain) should the opportunity arise?
"Leslie Grace...she’s such an amazing human being. I’m so excited for her! I feel like I’m open to anything. For Leslie, for example, the dream of being a Black woman and being asked to play this huge character in the DC Universe. That’s really big. I would always be open to anything that came my way," Beatriz enthused. "As an actor, I think that’s part of the thing I want to do most. I want to try on these different characters and slide into these different roles, disappearing into them."
"I’m lucky that in the course of my career the things I’ve chosen to do and been part of have really allowed me to run the gamut. Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the badass character of Rosa all the way to the voice work I do in Encanto, the latest Disney movie that’s come out. I always want to stay open to anything that comes my way and I’m hopeful that I can continue to play roles that people identify with and can see themselves as, whether they’re the hero of the story or the villain!"
Beatriz is likely to receive a huge amount of support from fans should the right role come along, as there continues to be a lot of chatter online about her playing a whole host of comic book characters. It was only last year we heard rumours she might play a gender-swapped Ghost Rider in the MCU, and it's fair to say both the Marvel and DC Universes would be very lucky to gain her talents.
Be sure to check back here tomorrow for an in-depth dive into her role as Batwoman in the DCAU!
Catwoman: Hunted is set for release on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and Digital on February 8, 2022.
