ACTION COMICS #1 is up for sale on Ebay

The original comic that inspired Man of Steel is up for sale on Ebay right now. And it's going for insane prices.

The comic that kickstarted Superman, the DC universe, and gave birth to the modern superhero is currently on auction at Ebay. Since its orginal publication in 1938 It has been estimated that only 50-100 copies of this comic exist today. But what makes this specific comic even more rare is that it has been rated a 9/10 in terms of quality. And as the owner Darren Adams says in his description it is,

 "The finest known copy of the most sought after comic book in the world. A 1938

museum piece with PERFECT WHITE pristine pages."

As it is sitting now the comic has a 1,750,200 USD offer. Keeping in mind that another

Action Comics #1 went for 2,161,000 (bought by Superman fan Nicholas Cage), the

comic's price could still go up.

Honestly, I might start collecting big time. I've got two number ones (Nova and Spawn) and I've got that Hulk Pitt crossover. I also have a copy of Arkham City signed by Kevin Conroy (awesome guy by the way). But this? I'll steal it from someone or have someone steal it for me.

Flash #110? At poorest condition, minimum record was $50. Best condition, record is $5,100.

Hate to break it to you, but those are practically worthless. Anything created in the 90's and on has next to no value. That signed Arkham City comic can probably net you a few hundreds though.

Word. I have a copy of Spawn #1. Pretty damned good condition too. The most I can probably get now is about $70 haha. Maybe in the future it'll be worth more. But the problem with comics from the 90's and onward is that they're so heavily mass produced the value goes down and stays low. Like so many people bank on any new #1 that's released currently, but fail to realize they won't be worth anything for a long time. I saw a documentary on superheores and comics and such. And there was footage shown during the frenzy that was the Death of Superman. This woman was interviewed. She picked up a copy of the first issue, saying that's going to be her kid's college tuition…..I wonder how she feels now knowing that's one of the most easily available comics around.

@Doopie
I'll be banking on it. Dunno if I'll be selling it though. Maybe if I fall on hard times but otherwise, I'm keeping that puppy.

@DTor91
I'd bet she feels pretty shitty about it. That's another thing really, lately the trade paperback has been a booming popularity in comics with most people opting to lash twenty bucks for a six or eight issue arc rather than hunt down single issues. I don't do any collecting until Dublin Comic-Con rolls around. There's one stall that sells proper vintage comics and shit all bound up in pouches and cases. That's where I bought my Nova #1. I was actually looking to buy Silver Surfer #1 (425 euros) and the guy was like, "I got some other classic cosmic stuff over here", and he pulls up this box. He's pulling out some serious gems, Rocket Raccoon's first appearance, Star Lord #1, The Coming of Galactus and then he just goes and pulls out Nova #1 and I'm like, "How much for that?" 75 euros. I tell him he can put the rest away, handed him the money and the rest is history. Hopefully I've got enough cash next year for that Silver Surfer #1, but for now, I couldn't be happier. I've only taken the Nova #1 outta the pouch once for about twenty seconds, just flipping through it. My God... The smell of the paper was divine. The pages were suitably browned off, but Christ, it was all just so beautiful. I think in that moment I decided I wanted to start amassing a collection.

That'd look great on a comic book cover as well, wouldn't it? Written by Taneleer Tivan. Dunno about collecting action figures or statues though. That's something else that French teacher went on about. The day after mock exam results came out, practically nobody came into school so she just went around the class asking us all fairly basic questions. I mentioned reading and writing comics as a hobby and went on about sci-fi movies and everything (all in French). She started telling the class about her friend's husband who had a massive Darth Vader statue, SIGNED by Dave Prowse and she sort of looked at me and went, "And he's forty! Forty years old with this bloody Darth Vader statue." I'm sat there going, "But it's signed by Dave Prowse! That's like having The Holy Grail signed by Jesus!" My buddy beside me is in fits of laughter at this stage while the seven other people in the class are just like, "He has problems, like, serious problems." I then said I'd love to meet this bloke and have a chat with him because he sounds like my kind of person. I think that was when she started hating me because it was essentially me saying I'd rather not have the same opinion as her.

Yeah the trades are definitely a big factor. And I know people who have made the jump to only reading comics digitally. But great landing on Nova#1. I guess I missed when you wrote that you have that, but as Doopie said that'll definitely go up when the Nova film releases. Might have already went up in value thanks to the Corps in GOTG. But wow those other comics, please tell me you went back and got those haha. I think one of my friends owns either the first appearance of Silver Surfer or SS #1. He's a huge fan of the character. One of the most valuable comics of all-time that belongs to someone I personally know is Amazing Fantasy #15. I'm pretty sure that'll be his retirement. Haha, oh that old comic smell, it's a special thing isn't it?

I just realised how much money I've built up in savings so I'll definitely be buying more next year. And yeah, that smell really is something special. I've only ever read one comic digitally but that was because it's not available in print. Can't even remember what it's called now, but it was pretty good. I'd never commit to reading only digital, the physical copies are part of the magic as far as I'm concerned.
