Per DC Comics official blog, The Source:

Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways.

“Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson.

“What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

Here’s a first look at the Superman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee.

So this Superman kills? Interesting.

Earth-Two is a fictional universe appearing in American comic book stories published by DC Comics. First appearing in The Flash #123 (1961), Earth-Two was created to explain how Silver-Age (Earth-One) versions of characters such as the Flash could appear in stories with their Golden Age counterparts. This Earth-Two continuity includes DC Golden Age heroes, including the Justice Society of America, whose careers began at the dawn of World War II, concurrently with their first appearances in comics. Earth-Two, along with the four other surviving Earths of the DC Multiverse, are merged into one in the 1985 miniseries Crisis on Infinite Earths.

DC Comics recently announced a new series called "Earth 2" which will take place on this version of Earth-2. Another series "World's Finest" will star the Earth 2 versions of Power Girl and the Huntress.

I've seen this design before in many fan arts. Looks very cool, maybe they should openly start looking at the fan base for inspiration and ideas...

@Dynamo
Agreed, better distribution of his primary colors. The red around the waist with the blue breaks it up as it needs to be.

I also prefer this design over Man of Steel's.

This is how you eliminate the trunks design without alienating the base. Respect the suit.

This is what I don't understand.First we heard James Robinson would be writing a JSA book set on Earth 2.Then we hear the book will not be called JSA, but Earth 2.Now all we've been hearing about is Batman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Superman stories on Earth 2.Where's the JSA?Why are they focusing on alternate versions of characters who have their own New Earth titles?

I was under the impression this new series was meant to explore the characters who didn't fit in the continuity of the New 52, not alternate versions of characters we're already seeing.

Don't really understand the need to do Earth 2, why can't they focus on making the new 52 more awesome.

Earth 2 Superman looks better than the New 52 design.

Also, all this Earth 2 crap is unsettling to me. I thought the point of the New 52 was to get away from all the alternate universe crap DC always has going on. Here we are less than a year into it and we've already got complicated continuity.

What's it say to a companies creative ability when they constantly have to “reset” everything? Seems to me the whole industry needs to be “reset”.

Paper seems so archaic and expensive. It's probably way past time for this medium to switch gears and go electronic.

The cycle of “epic” events is sucking the life out of the creativity aspects of comic writing. It's either that or the writers are just plain lazy now. I don't know how you can expect a kid the fork over $3, $4, or $5 per issue and survive.

@zombieovereasy i was just thinking that the other day. I really am disappointed that they are introducing earth 2 already. i thought they'd wait at least 2 years before doing so.
niknik
niknik - 3/2/2012, 7:59 AM
All the Earth 2 characters are darker, grittier, more vicious versions of the mainstream universe. Why not just call it "Ultimate Earth" while your at it?

@Spideyquad - Couldn't agree more. Just get back to good storytelling with interesting plots. No need to blow up the universe every other summer.

GUNSMITH
GUNSMITH - 3/2/2012, 8:06 AM
WHY DON'TN THEY JUST MAKE IT LOOK MORE LIKE THE MOVIE SUIT?
valeriesghost
valeriesghost - 3/2/2012, 8:11 AM
@Gunsmith I thought the same thing, but they probably don't want you to think the movie is an Earth 2 movie.

Extremely random, but I designed nearly an identical suit to this nearly 2 years ago for shits and giggles. The parts that are the most similar with my design was the S and the belt. Sorta cool

this is what his belt should look like in the movie .

i still dont see how some people like that armored mess in the new 52 but w,e

THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE MOVIE AND NEW-52 DESIGN. AMAZING.
Supershadowbat
Supershadowbat - 3/2/2012, 8:32 AM
Great design, looks better than the main universe Supes uniform. If you read what was said, "What do you have to do to teach Superman how to kill?" It doesn't say that he does kill, but can and will he. The Earth 2 book will mainly feature the JSA, but it seems the Big 3 are a part of the JSA on Earth 2. I understand the Earth 2 GL will be Alan Scott, can't eait to see his uniform design.
thewolfx
thewolfx - 3/2/2012, 8:35 AM
iv been saying this from the getgo

his belt in the movie and new 52 should of been red with a yellow buckle

damn im good

I still believe that Superman's classic suit is the best, but I like this better than the movie and lots better than the New 52.
