Those of us of a certain age will surely remember the movie Labyrinth starring David Bowie and a young Jennifer Connolly. It was a slightly bizarre fantasy adventure featuring awesome Jim Henson puppetry. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and it actually stands up today as an enjoyable flick. Many of us have wondered if we would ever see a sequel but we might just have to settle for a comic book prequel.

From Starburst..

Comics publisher Archaia have revealed they are currently working on a prequel graphic novel that will tell the tale of how Jareth (portrayed in the movie by an alarmingly tight-trousered David Bowie) found his way to the Labyrinth and became crowned The Goblin King.

There has already been a Labyrinth spin off in the form of four part Tokyopop sequel Return To Labyrinth..

Archaia have previously adapted other Jim Henson properties Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal. They claim this prequel will be "completely true to the spirit of the original" and have enlisted original creature designer Brian Froud to oversee the project.
