COMICS: Jim Henson's LABYRINTH To Get A Graphic Novel Prequel

A true '80s classic is set to get the prequel treatment, but in comic form. Apparently this new story will tell the tale of how Jareth became the Goblin King..

Those of us of a certain age will surely remember the movie Labyrinth starring David Bowie and a young Jennifer Connolly. It was a slightly bizarre fantasy adventure featuring awesome Jim Henson puppetry. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and it actually stands up today as an enjoyable flick. Many of us have wondered if we would ever see a sequel but we might just have to settle for a comic book prequel.

From Starburst..

Comics publisher Archaia have revealed they are currently working on a prequel graphic novel that will tell the tale of how Jareth (portrayed in the movie by an alarmingly tight-trousered David Bowie) found his way to the Labyrinth and became crowned The Goblin King.

There has already been a Labyrinth spin off in the form of four part Tokyopop sequel Return To Labyrinth..

Archaia have previously adapted other Jim Henson properties Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal. They claim this prequel will be "completely true to the spirit of the original" and have enlisted original creature designer Brian Froud to oversee the project.

My kids had nightmares from this movie and it wasn't the scary muppets either! (it was David Bowie's hangy down that scared them!)

Dance magic, dance! It's a classic that warped my fragile young mind, bless it. I'm honestly surprised no one has tried to reboot it, and I hope they never do.

Uh.......Jennifer Connelly NOW!!!!! But 80's as well. It's ok that she was under 18 then cause so was I. She was like 14 when they made that. Oddly enough this is still one of my favorite movies.

How dare you! j/k
I thought she looked good in Blood Diamond and Lee's Hulk. Haven't seen her in much else recently. I've just always thought she looks good. obviously she looks better when she was younger, but I wouldn't say that 14 years old J.C. looks better than 2000-curent J.C., that's kinda purvy.

And I'm not drunk......just, kinda.......buzzed

@Ron

What babe?

@Nomis

Yeah I always dig the curves. But I've noticed one of the facts of life is that when lady gets older gravity takes those curves and you're two choices become (but not ALWAYS): Curves that only look good pinned up in clothes, or skinny. But what can ya do?

If they aint making a prequel movie then this comic is pointless, it has no music to continue the magic and I don't have "Sad Sucker" written all over my face!

Jennifer Connolly hasn't looked good since the 90's. Hollywood stopped feeding her and she got that stupid breast reduction so now looks like a unattractive stick insect!

Hmm, I think I might have to get this. I loved Labyrinth when I was a kid. Besides David Bowie already looks like a Manga character!

@teabag - Thank you for that! She was HOTTT when she was younger. But still I'd love to be to Jennifer Connelly what Ashton Kutcher was Demi Moore.

That awesome moment you feel when you meet someone else who knows what comes after "you remind me of the babe".

It has actually happened to me twice in life. Once at the mall, with the girl who was ringing me up at a clothing store, and again at a bonfire with a drunken bearded man. You never know who is a fan.

Labyrinth is amazing -- a perfect piece of my childhood. Hopefully someday it can have a sequel, although i'm not sure anyone could match the performance David Bowie gave as Jareth.
