COMICS: New Power, New Costume & More Big Reveals From SUPERMAN #38

We already knew that the Man of Steel would be getting a new "Super Flare" power in this week's Superman #38, but some preview pages from the issue also give us our first look at his new duds, and... well, you'll have to click on to see, but be warned of massive SPOILERS!

If you are still planning on picking up a copy of today's Superman #38 by Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr., best to read no further... unless you don't mind spoilers that is! The following preview pages come with some pretty big revelations: First, when Supes uses his new Super Flare his solar cells deplete, meaning that in the 24 hours needed for him to recharge his battery as it were, he will be a normal human being for all intents and purposes. Of course he could just not use the flare, but something tells me we'll be getting a scenario or two in upcoming issues that leave him with no choice. With his original New 52 outfit destroyed by his Super Flare activation, Kal El also debuts a brand new costume; and wears it when he reveals his secret identity to Jimmy Olsen. Wait.. what? Yep.

Of course this isn't the first time Supes has done this (Lois Lane etc), but it's still a pretty big revelation. What do you guys think? let us know in the usual place.

Those sleeves are kinda strange hopefully one day he will get something similar to man of steel, classic but modernized the only one who makes sense to wear armor is batman, aquaman and wonder woman the flash needs a more streamlined costume similar to under armour athletic wear because of aerodynamics and drag

I can't stand the way Romita Jr draws Superman. I'll take Jim Lee over him any day.

In other topic, doesn't this idea of the super-suit being like nanomachines sounds like a good idea for how the suit can be hidden in BvS:DOJ? (except for the suit beign an armor, Supes doesn't need a armor)

JRJR is a mixed bag with Superman. Some panals look good to me. Some don't.

His Batman looks good but where's Bat's cape?

I like how the new suit looks more cloth than body armor.

Don't like the fingerless gloves. I feel the belt should be yellow and add a red line down the sides of Superman. If you're gonna take away the red underwear, you should add red somewhere and having a red line down the sides of Supers would look better.

As if ice breath, super speed, super strength, invulnerability, flying and heat vision weren't enough. I like the concept of the power limitations but I think he should also lose a couple of his traditional power like invulnerability. That was the reason Supes got boring to me. No way to hurt or kill him without Kryptonite.

Also, until you change the colors and features of his costume it's the same old Superman outfit. "Wow his sleeves cover his hands now. Looky there!!! His belt buckle is in a different shape and wowsers look at how the cape tucks in now!!!" If you're gonna reboot his image then go all in.

That aside I do like the art.

That's about the stupidest looking Superman I've ever seen in that bottom panel. More the artwork than the costume.

There are fewer lines in the suit which is good, but the gloves? The collar? The belt? The New52 was better in those areas. Also the cape tucking into the chest I do not like.

Funny that all the whiners whining about him being OP and not needing another ability fail to realize that this is as much a weakness and a way to de-power Supes as it is a new power.

Should open up some new story telling avenues and put a new spin on Superman. Its different and not sure I like it, but he power makes sense given his physiology and I am interested to see how they proceed with it.

The art sucks so badly and the suit is even worse than the previous one. WB shouldn't have won the Superman case.
