My favorite art from Romita jr. was in the amazing spider-man. His cartoon like style helped thread the web-head's story. other than that, "Um... check please."

Uh, this story looks nice.... I'd backtrack it if only I didn't have to read the previous terrible, horrible run that started this title...

Things have looked bleak ever since JRJR started on this comic.

Some people are gonna love Romita, some are gonna hate him BUT PLEASE stop saying things like "he can't draw characters in proportion/ with the right angles" etc. It isn't a case of he can't, he isn't trying to. His art is really stylised and different and that's why the people who do like him, like him.

It's the same with Ramos and other artists who CHOOSE to over exaggerate aspects of their characters and don't necessarily worry about keeping things realistic- if every artist used life models like Alex Ross comics would become a lot more elitist and boring.

I love Romita's work on Spidey and Kick Ass and all the other stuff i've seen. I won't be able to read this until it's out in trade collection but I'm excited to do so.

I personally hate Frank Miller's writing because I don't like the way all his characters sound the same and every city he writes about "talks to" the characters. However I would never say he can't write just because i don't like his style, it's what his fans like about him.

@franshu - you don't have to backtrack. Johns' run is independent to the N52.

@MFDoom - You should.

@AXE - you stopped reading know Geoff was coming on the ticket?

@CavEl

It's not like I stopped reading because I didn't like it, I simply didn't have time, and then I got hooked up more on Batman and the ongoing spider-verse, I can only afford so many comicbooks haha

I absolutely cannot stand JRJR's style. I just can't get into it.

I love (not really) that the "darkened" Superman from that cover - darkened on purpose and for effect - is pretty similar to how Snyder's Superman looks in his regular state.
BuckyCap

@Parkerluckpersonified

So by that logic, Rob Liefeld isn't bad but rather chooses to draw disproportionate bodies, squishy faces, bendy swords, etc.

Sorry. I am not buying it. JRJR is a hack. He doesn't draw square faces and scratchy lines because he is trying to be stylistic anymore than Rob Liefeld covers feet to be stylistic. He does it because he is lazy.

Artwork is blahhhhhhhh...

Parkerluckpersonified - 12/27/2014, 6:39 AM
@BuckyCap I don't mind him ;-P, I think Liefeld is very 90s style when everyone had huge muscles and huge shoulder pads cos they were trying to look like the X-men cartoon haha. If you look up some of his sketches they're not bad. admittedly he struggles with perspective sometimes.

Fact is that if i drew a Superman head and a Peter Parker head next to each other they'd be very similar but with different hair. People have styles and often draw their characters in the same way over and over. especially if they're drawing the character a lot of times over and over.
