COMICS: A Redesigned BRAINIAC Returns To The New 52 For Villains Month

DC's latest "What's New In The New 52" teaser pic gives us a look at the returning Brainiac, who is set to star in his own one-shot by Tony Bedard and Pascal Alixe as part of Villains Month this September. Check out his new look(s) after the jump..

It seems we'll also be getting an origin tale for the character when he returns, as apparently the above image depicts him "both as a doctor experimenting on his son, and as the maniacal villain we all know after he’s mutilated himself into his present look."

Bob Harras tells the Source:

"We already know that Brainiac has been collecting worlds. But why does he do what he does? Surely this psychopath must have motives beyond just trying to save the civilizations being threatened by the 5th dimension – but what are they? What will happen when a new superhero discovers the truth? And how will her startling revelation impact the rest of the DC Universe?"

@LP4

Agreed. Braniac NEEDS to be in the sequel. I would also love Doomsday or maybe Metallo as future villains.

Brainiac is one of my favorite Superman villains, along with Metallo.

Interesting! It looks like they decided to just undo Grant Morrison's take on the character (THANK you) and just go back to the Geoff Johns interation (albeit a bit slimmer), and pair him with the Silver Age version for some reason (no head dots, lab coat for a costume-- Alex Ross based his version from Justice on this, but with the head nodes).

How exactly does that work? Is the "creepy doctor" version the real version, and the bulky supervillain version a drone of some kind? 'Cause honestly, I'd rather see the Johns costume on the actual character... especially since "creepy doctor" Brainiac is kinda visually boring (and I'm not exactly fond of his smirking weasel face, but that's the artist, not the design).

Oh-- crap. I just read the text of the article. Silly me, creepy Doctor Brainiac is from a FLASHBACK, and Geoff Johns Brainiac is the present version of him.

Sweet!

@batmaniac- Lol i actually hoped for Luthor/Brainiac in the sequel. But i agree Luthor/Metallo does seem the most likely

Would have been awesome to have Brainiac in the sequel to Superman Returns sequel. You could have had him come after Jason and try to make him join his side and help Brainy invade Earth. Then have Supes kick his ass. Singer would have made it epic like "Wrath of Khan" like he promised.
