COMICS: DC Announces New Creative Team For WONDER WOMAN Series

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang's critically acclaimed Wonder Woman run will come to an end this October with issue #35, and after over three years of a heavy focus on Greek mythology, the new creative team will be taking things in a very different direction. Read on for details!

Meredith Finch and her husband/Forever Evil artist David Finch are set to take over Wonder Woman from Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang. Their run will begin with Wonder Woman #36 this November, and the focus will apparently now be on Wonder Woman's, "interpersonal relationships and her responsibilities to the Amazons and her fellow heroes in the Justice League." That sounds like a far more traditional take on the character than the current creative team's exploration of Diana's ties to Greek mythology, and Meredith (who has so far written short stories for Zenescope Entertainment) is quoted as saying, "It makes sense if you're going to try to attract that female market that you appeal to them on every level -- your writing demographic reflects the demographic of your readership." What do you guys think about the new creative team?

I've really been enjoying Chiang/Azzarello's run, but I love Finch's art. I okay with this.

Finch is one of the best. Not sure about the writer though, never read her work. Can't stand Azarello's run though so hopefully she'll at least make this title readable.

Finch is really hit and miss for me, but that is a great image.

WW looks like a teenager/girl in her face in that artwork though.

I do hope they focus more on crafting excellent stories and characters than "how best to attract the female market!!" and using shallow techniques. Great excellent stories and character with the protagonist being a female is what I hope they have their minds on.

I'd rather them make her mythos more independent. There is a ton of unexplored aspects of the mythology or forgotten stuff... like what about Greed, Deception and Conquest? They could be made epic, scary characters... like the harbinger of another a villain like Ares. Or what about the Erinyes? Or Pandora? So much untapped stuff. What about Alkyone?

Amarillo's run was the pits. But I guess it's all set in stone now, so there's no fixing it.

Comics 101: A big bad always becomes 10x more awesome when he/she has several monstrous, threatening and badass harbingers :P

Let's see where they take this. I liked the previous run but this could be good. I like Finch's art but wasn't a huge fan of his Batman.

Interesting creative team dynamic as well.

Strife, or Eris, has already appeared in Wonder Woman before Azz.

This is like following up Neil Gaiman's run on Sandman with Jeph Loeb and Rob Liefeld. Finch is the worst artist at DC today. Dropped with #35.

Now Superman can show up in this damn title. And now she can interact with other League members.

@Prime

I think it's best if they expand on the goldmine of Greek mythology.

God I hate how Finch draws women. Chiang's Diana was BEAUTIFUL.

If you want to appeal to the female demographic then WB's should be quickly using there time to do a Wonder Woman film.

eh..Finch's work has fallen off since he left MARVEL imo. Some of his current stuff looks fantastic, and some of it looks like dog crap. Wish they went with another more consistant artist.
