COMICS: DC Confirms Oversized $7.99 Issue Of DETECTIVE COMICS #900 #19 This April

If "The New 52" reboot had never happened, this April would have seen Detective Comics reach #900. Well, contrary to expectations, DC aren't reverting to the original numbering, but they ARE releasing a special oversized issue. Read on for details!

Fans have been speculating that DC would return Detective Comics to its original pre-"The New 52" numbering when the 900th issue of the series goes on sale this April, but the solicitations for that month show otherwise. However, they are still planning on celebrating the fact that the series has reached this landmark number with an 80 page comic for $7.99 by John Layman and Jason Fabok. Despite this being an important issue for the Caped Crusader, it doesn't sound as if we should expect anything anywhere near as big to happen as in Marvel's recent Amazing Spider-Man #700.

• In a special oversized celebratory issue, Batman is challenged by the "Mystery of the 900!"

I know exactly what happens. Batman cracks and finally kills Joker's parents. Joker kills Batman, after they switch bodies. Then Batman tells Joker he's sorry and now he feels exactly what he did so he dies and leaves the Joker to become the new Badder Batman!

Detective Comics is the weakest of the Bat books...not expecting much from this

Detective is great fun. The weakest bat book is Redhood.

Sweet!

Well, it may not be numbered #900, but as long as they're celebrating the 900th issue of Detective somehow (and as long as they're doing so with the so-far awesome creative team of John Layman and Jason Fabok), I'm happy.

P.S.: Please, DC, don't kill Batman and let the Joker take over his body. Normally I would think such a thing would go without saying, but... well, you know.

P.P.S.: I'd say the weakest Bat-book WAS Batman: The Dark Knight, and Red Hood was second worst. But now they're both getting new creative teams, so who knows? Maybe they'll ALL turn out to be good from now on.

One can only hope.

Detective Comics WAS the weakest Batbook. That is not the case since Layman took over.

For me, the quality of Batbooks is:
1. Batman
2. Detective Comics
3. Batman and Robin
4. Batgirl
5. Batwoman
6. Nightwing
7. Batman: The Dark Knight
8. Teen Titans
9. Red Hood and the Outlaws
10. Catwoman

I'm not reading Batwing so I don't know how good that one is.

I don't see any reason why they cannot have the original numbering on the new books in smaller type next to the actual larger new number...

It is history that you cannot ignore and it should be relevant for all to see the original numbering who originally read these books from the beginning...

That Batman Cover is Fricking Awesome as well...

@ AUSSYACE

Same with Action Comics, how cool would it have been if it reached 1000.

I don't think I could stomach 80 pages of Fabok artwork.

And I'm not going to lament the whole re-numbering thing, but celebrate 900 or don't (and I think it SHOULD be)

The weakest Bat book is Superman. I keep sifting through the pages and not a single panel of Batman anywhere! Just Superman. I've written letters to complain but they never respond.

Good stuff. Now, I'm not worried about Action Comics. We can still have a 1000th issue celebration, without making the Marvelous mistake that the other company keeps making. Legacy renumbering every bloody two years only to follow up with another bloody number one the next chance they get.
