COMICS: MARTIAN MANHUNTER To Get Solo Back-up In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA

Similar to Captain Marvel's introductory back-up stories in the backpages of Justice League, Martian Manhunter will receive the same treatment in Justice League of America. Hopefully, J'onn still loves Oreos.

Starting in issue #2 of Justice League of America, Manhunter will have his own, solo back-up story from writers Matt Kindt and Geoff Johns featuring art by Scott Clark. J'onn J'onzz has always been one incredibly intriguing character, with strength on par with Superman or a tier-or-two below, that raw power is combined with telepathy and shape-shifting abilities. Personally, I've always thought that J'onn would take Supes no contest if push came to shove. Said Kint on his take on the character, ""I can't tell you how excited I am to be working on this. I grew up with the JLA and Manhunter was one of the few characters I felt had so much more un-mined potential than most of the other characters. His powers and abilities really lend themselves to the kind of stories I love to tell. And working with Geoff? That's like the cherry on top. But more than just being fun from the fan/reader part of me, we're really working to make the back-ups be an essential part of the reading experience. We're treating the back-up like the harmony to the main melody of the issue....the first few stories we’re just going to establish how scary he is. It’s almost like Dr. Manhattan, this guy is crazy scary: he can do anything. I want to establish that first, and then we can establish how he can be beaten."

Where is that picture of J'onn against the League from? I've seen it so often but is there actually a series where this fight appeared in? Was it in Stormwatch (haven't read that)?

@kackbratze

The whole story hasent been shown yet, just a two page spread in JL eight as a flashback.

But I'm really interested in seeing it, apparently MM was the first new member and it dident exactly go well so from then on the league decided to keep its roster to seven.

@ kackbratze - Its from the Justice League (cant remember exact issue) the league are talking about recruiting new members and they recall when they attempted this in the past and how it met with a bad ending...then it pans to this image...

@ elcaballerooscuro92 - Martian Manhunter has always had 'Laser' vision; as its called, in the comics...its one of the additional sense Martians have that basically gives them super powers, in the Justice League cartoon he never had this...and they focused more on his telepathy...but basically J'onn has all the powers of Superman + Telepathy + molecular density control + shape shifting and general molecular control over his cellular structure...so yeah he's a pretty powerful dude...

I've always liked this character, he just needs the right creative team and there's so much you could do with him.

@caballero

Its not exactly heat vision like Superman. Its energy beams. But his powers seems to change a lot.

Like supersomething wrote, he was depowered for the Justice League show like Superman, who was barely even in it. And when he was he didnt use most of his power set or really any super strength cuz things would be too easy.

MM is like Supes but with a wider power set but the main powers aren't to the same degree like superstrength, flight speed, etc

He's a great character, but people complain about Superman being overpowered? Martian Manhunter is probably even worse in that sense. Both of them really should be taken down a peg or two.

@froggy great list! Unsure of the WW choice but I dont really know that actor but for sure no on ryan philippe for Flash. I dont know if he could bring much substance as Barry since hes not the strongest actor. But otherwise awesome!

Most writers are afraid to work with J'onn because of his power arsenal. There's only so many scenarios he can't get out of.

What I love most about him is that with all of his superpowers (which come naturally to all Martians, not just a yellow sun anomaly) J'onn could be off saving the world a hundred times over, but he's just not invested enough.

I'm really not liking the costume... the loincloth especially. It really looks like an early 90s X-Men or X-Force design.

@Froggy

typical shit fancasting mostly based on just the appearance as opposed to acting ability and compatibility with characters.

cavill's already supes.

the only one off that list besides him that i'd say is good is giancarlo esposito. funnily enough, that's the only choice not made due to physical resemblance.

Somebody from WB needs to see this list before we get somebody like Jim Carey dressed up like Batman.

"What I love most about him is that with all of his superpowers (which come naturally to all Martians, not just a yellow sun anomaly)"

Do you mean that Superman is an anomaly? Cuz that happens to all kryptonians. Or did you mean the anomaly is the biology they share that is different from humans even though aesthetically at least they are the same.

It seems as though you feel that invalidates the integrity of Superman's powers.

I meant precisely what I said.
All martians (when they lived) ON Mars, had the exact same powers J'onn has... while on Mars. That means it was a part of their culture, society, evolution, and technology. How much importance would their appearance have if they were all shapeshifters? If they could all fly, what need is there for transportation? The implications are all the more interesting.

Kryptonians were like every day people on Earth, while on Krypton. Spend enough time in the yellow sun, however, and you'll start flying, have super strength, super speed, super endurance, heat vision, frost breath, etc....

@Tainted87
Good point and I see what you mean. Kryptons culture has nothing to do with super powers where as the Martians were based on it. Which makes me think a couple things.

1. The Martians are Boss and if they were still around they wouldn't have to invade us, we wouldn't even be worth the effort.

2. If something as simple as a different sun can give a race every super power in the book , why hasn't Lex or anybody else seen if a similiar effect can be done on humans?

I know the story wouldn't work but i sure wouldn't mind being sent off to another planet if I got all supermans powers.
