COMICS: New DC Logo Gets Some Color

We have by now all seen the new plain looking DC logo that has been floating around the web. Now they have released some more exciting and colorful versions of the logo including a Watchman one.

A couple of days ago DC reveled their new logo that they had submitted to the patent office. You all turned out in droves to tell CBM that you did not much care for the logo one bit, but maybe these new and improved versions of the logo will change your mind. Bleeding Cool have gotten a hold of some new looks for the logo. The logos breath a bit more life in to the boring grey and white that we saw before with a number of colors and styles including some based off of comics(notice the Watchman one).

Another aspect of the new logo will be the role it will play in the touchscreen viewing of DC's material. A small demenstration of how it will work is on display in the photo below.

DC excited about the new logo with Senior Vice President of Franchise Management Amit Desai saying, "We didn’t want a static logo, but a living identity that could capture the power of our characters and storytelling. What is special about DC content is the notion of a dual identity. When you think about our DC Comics superheroes, there’s a secret identity. When you think about Vertigo, it’s this notion of good vs. evil in many of the stories. And so, in addition to flexibility, the new logo communicates this idea of dual identity: there’s more than meets the eye. You have to take a closer look to understand the richness of our characters and stories." They also said that the new logo wasn't done in haste either. Desai states that they did major focus groups to test the logo and also included comic book fans in the process as well.

Oh wow! Still looks average. They could have adapted the current logo to incorporate these colour variations.

The only one that looks half decent is the GL inspired one. The Watchmen one sucks.

I don't actually like this change but I was behind DC for the New 52 relaunch...one out of two aint bad

I still think the current one is just fine, BUT if they do personalize the logo for each DC character I think it would be alright.

Definitely looks better like that. Like the GL and Flash ones the most.

It becomes rather interesting with that kind of personalizations, but...it's better, but I still prefer the old logo. Come on. I may accept that form of new logo on comics, but not in the beginning of movies, etc.

I like these, if they do a few more and keep changing it up a bit I could get on board withe the new logo. And even if they don't, it's just a logo!

Ooooohhhh....I get it. Still not that great. Also, how does a logo with this much variety unify a brand? That's what logos are supposed to do, right?

WOW MUCH BETTER!

NOT!

@deadpoolbeatsall I'm guessing with the "D" peeling back revealing the "C" and the effects. Like with GL, the "D" peels with the light emitting. Or with that last one, the mist or fog coming off. I'm sure they'd find a way to do that.

IDK. I'd say they need to have a little more work done on all of them, then maybe.

BTW DC this is another problem with them.

Guys I can't tell which one is for which character... LOL. So could one of you guys tell me which logo is for which?

The color really helps, especially the Green Lantern one.

HONESTLY DC IS DOING WELL, CHANGING THE LOGO..WELL NOBODY WILL LIKE IT AT FIRST BUT HEY LET'S LET THEIR COMICS SPEAK FOR THEM.

Like my Grandpa used to say, "You can put frosting and a candle on a turd, but that doesn't make it a birthday cake". No colors can make that logo look any less ugly.

Well it def looks a lot better with color. I was wondering why the whole peel back look, but now I get the reason for the patent if its for a touchscreen app.

Worst logo in comic book history. You name it, no matter which one you pick, ANY comic book company's logo is better than that.

It's just so 2D to me, it's flat as [frick]. No matter what sparkly color you put on it, it just doesn't jump out at me. At least make it less square with perspectives and shit.
EdGross
EdGross - 1/19/2012, 8:45 AM
It's a terrible logo, no two ways about it. Do they truly believe that this change is something going to reinvigorate everything for them? Change for the sake of change is pointless.

Ed- AMEN!!!
Jolt17
Jolt17 - 1/19/2012, 8:55 AM
So I guess the personalization is the big deal here...and I tried them myself on the current logo.

Just a rough quick job, but the overall idea can work finely IMO.

Well, DC Comics became very 90s generic type stuff after Flashpoint. No reason why the logo shouldn't follow in it's footstep.

Really miss the old DC...

Can I say: I TOLD YOU, GUYS!!! I knew they would personalize it to each comic. Just wasn't sure to what extent.
KURockChalk

needs more than color
plasticman
plasticman - 1/19/2012, 9:04 AM
So they have developed examples of how this would work and I think I figured out who each of these is for. Grey Gargoyle, Venom, Human Torch, Deadpool, Green Lantern, and Ice Man.

So estentially, they developed this new logo to benefit only one of THEIR superheroes...Green Lantern.

Not a big fan of this change as it was unnecessary. If they wanted to do this they should have pushed it at the same time as the New 52. Seems like a change made out of desperation.

M3T4L I agree I could see an updated version of that... :) They could even personalize that for each character as well.
HelaGood

that is still horrible! they took all of the excitement out of the last logo and made it completely boring.

kinda what theyve been doing with their movies lately...
