In their in-depth interview with comic book writer James Robinson, Comic Book Resources debuted the variant cover for He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe #1, drawn by Dave Wilkins and featuring the villainous Skeletor. The six-issue series, which begins in July, will be written by Robinson and illustrated by Phillip Tan. In the series, "He-Man's archenemy Skeletor has altered reality, making himself the ruler of Castle Grayskull, leaving Adam cast as a simple woodsman who has visions of wielding a mighty sword in battles against fishmen, beastly humanoids and trap-jawed robots." For CBR's full interview with Robinson (in which he confirms that this series is not set in DC's New 52, among other things), click the link below.

Do you plan on checking out He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe this summer?

@DarKnightRises
Dude Warner's do not own the movie rights to Masters of The Universe, Sony does. Mattel just gave DC the rights to put out a twelve issue comic for them.

@PatientZero
How does He-mans costume look fruity. It look no different than Conan's outfit. They is are both Barbarians. The He-man look is actually based on Arnold's version of Conan when they were making the toys lol

Nope, He-man is not apart of the new 52. All of DC's licensed books like Supernatural, Uncharted, and Gears of War are only going to have the DC Comics logo on them lol

That's cool!

But I always thought funny (an that since I was little) that every man is [frick]ing ripped and every woman is [frick]in hot in masters of the universe... even skeletor, which is a... you know, skeleton!

@ fogs

lol, true.

you know what else is funny? Nobody seems to live in Eternia except for He-Man and his crew, and Skeletor and his crew. Yet everytime some shit starts to go down, everyone is surprised Skeletor is behind it.

@CorndogBurglar - hahaha true!

@PatientZero - but Dadarkknight's got a point, it was based on conan and first released as toys, with the cartoon following.

This franchise is near and dear to my heart, but being based on a toy line that was kind of thrown together, there is no continuity. It's all messed up and crazy. Between the original comics, the old cartoon, the kids books, the marvel comics, the new cartoon and everything else there are all kinds of differences. He-Man is a barbarian, He-Man isn't a barbarian, He-Man gets the powers of his barbarian king ancestor. Skeletor is from another dimension, Skeletor is the kings brother, Skeletor had his face burned by acid, Skeletor lost his face when a magic rock gave him is powers. Its all over the place.

Still cool, though.

@PatientZero - That toy line is still getting new releases. It is successful.

You mean in the 80's cartoon's story. I the original comics he was a barbarian, and in the 80's movie there was no Prince Adam.

Yeah, I'm just being difficult. You could argue that the alter ego IS a barbarian though, if you define barbarian as a big warrior with minimal armor that fights with a sword.

GThis looks awsome! I actually liked the Lord Grayskull vs Hordac setup.

The older Adam/He-Man was kinda.. strange.. No one knows who He-Man is.. Because Adam takes his clothes of and.. well.. thats it! I wonder how it goes as Adam and his pals hit the beach.. Adam change into speedos and everybode goes: Waaaait a minute.. Where the heck did Adam go?!?! And where did you come from He-Man?!?!

Skeletor is one character that you can't have credibility-problem with, he needs to be seriously scary guy.

such a shame that mattel has never put this property in the hands of a publisher who knows how to handle it instead of peddling it here and there from time to time. i mean, yeah, it's all based on a toy line but you can't tell me that there is not some really good stuff to work with there.
