The most popular characters! The most acclaimed creators! The most ambitious stories! This is the energized Ultimate Marvel NOW!.

This April, Marvel’s Ultimate universe undergoes a massive overhaul in an exciting and new direction as the industry’s top creators - Brian Michael Bendis, Michel Fiffe and Joshua Hal Fialkov take everyone’s favorite Ultimate universe characters - Spider-Man, Iron Man, Kitty Pryde, Sue Storm, Black Widow (formally Spider-Woman), Cloak & Dagger and more in an all-new and exciting direction after the devastating events of Cataclysm.

“The Ultimate Universe is relatively young, which yields more opportunities for real change, real dangers, and dramatic avenues left unexplored in superhero comics,” says ALL-NEW ULTIMATES writer Michel Fiffe.

It all starts in April with ALL-NEW ULTIMATES, from the creative team of Michel Fiffe (Copra) and Amilcar Pinna (X-Men: First Class). Spider-Man, Black Widow (formally Spider-Woman), Kitty Pryde, Bombshell, Cloak & Dagger officially unite to tackle the vicious, rampant crime wave overtaking Hell’s Kitchen! But can this new team of Ultimates stand up to the murderous gang known only as the Serpent Skulls?

Ultimate Marvel NOW! continues through the spring of 2014 with the launch of ULTIMATE FF by Joshua Hale Fialkov (Cataclysm: Ultimate X-Men) and upcoming superstar artist, Mario Guevara. The FF - Future Foundation - is all that stands between the Ultimate universe and COMPLETE AND UTTER DOOM! Can Sue Storm, Tony Stark, Machine Man and Sam Wilson face the oncoming devastation directly after the events of Cataclysm?

And finally, Miles Morales is back in his own web-slinging solo-series, MILES MORALES: ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN by creator Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, All-New X-Men) and artist Dave Marquez (Cataclysm: Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, All-New X-Men). In the wake of earth-shattering events, Miles is back in action with a new status quo and a new outlook on life! But there is no time to sit back and relax. A BIG villain from Peter Parker’s past is alive and well and about to turn New York upside down.

With how the Marvel cinematic Universe pulled heavily from the previous Ultimates universe, I guess it should come as no surprise that it was never really going to disappear entirely. I wouldn't be surprised if this 'reboot' of sorts will hold more closely to the McU more so than the other way around as far as one influencing the other.

Well this isn't exciting at all. I'm not being sarcastic either - this really just doesn't interest me even the slightest bit, and I've been loving Ultimate Spider-man up until recently.

Hmmmm….maybe they will use this opportunity to bring back Rich Rider in some odd way (although Id prefer they'd banish the new Nova to the Ultimate Universe personally).

Don't blame Loeb. Guy was going through a bad time and lashed out by killing a shitload of major characters. The universe would have easily recovered if they had got brilliant creators to take their time crafting brilliant books, like they started off doing. I mean, they kept Bendis on Spidey and he killed off Parker and replaced him with a completely new character that has now proven imensely popular. If they'd just done that with The Ultimates, all would've been fine. But they've constantly diluted the series, resulting in an uninteresting ongoing by some average creative team.
If Marvel couldn'tfind a team that had something worthwhile to bring to the table then they should have let the series cool on it's ass for a bit. Much like DC is doing with Earth One. So far we have only had 3 OGNs for Earth One and they've all been worthwhile.
The Ultimate Universe started out as being a definitive revision of 616, but in the wake of Ultimatum it has been treated as a second-hand, second-class alternate reality, such as New Universe or MC2.
We're all pissed off that Marvel won't let this universe die with the dignity it still clings to. But the truth is, there really is nothing for us to be pissed about. The Ultimate universe died with Sam Loeb.

Also - Spider-woman = Black Widow? C'mon now, that's almost as bad as taking a well known, beloved character and killing him off only to replace him with a different character that has a nearly identical back story and powers just so you can market to a different ethnic group - instead of, you know, just creating a brand new superhero that's actually cool and building off him... oh wait...

@vtopa - if they bring back Dick Rider, I will laugh so damn hard at Marvel. C'mon, DICK RIDER, DIIIIIIICK RIDER.

Artwork is GORGEOUS!!

I don't read Marvel or any DC comics (Swamp Thing, Wonder Woman and Animal Man are about the only mainstream books I get from the big two) but I can really appreciate some of the artwork I see.

I guess my tastes sort of evolved over the years, and although I was buying Cloak and Dagger back when Rick Leonardi was the artist for the original run, it's still nice to see new takes on the characters that we know and love.

Teens have changed since then.
Why shouldn't the teenage heroes?

I may check it out based on the art. I don't know.

@Batman1216 MArvel Comics has sucked exponentially MORE as Disney has taken a heavier hand in the company. They are basically driving the story telling now to match the movies (rather than the other way around which is the way it should be). Typical bloated corporation strategy. Everything is about "CROSS PROMOTION"

That is why they replaced awesome Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers) with that teen aged nobody and that is why they replaced awesome Nova (Rich Rider) with that other teen-aged nobody (Sam what's-his-face).

Drop characters you spent decades building a loyal following to, then replace them with these teen aged also-rans so you can "cross promote" with your cartoons on saturday morning and your movies and your shitty S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. Most importantly, abandon your core ADULT constituency by elevating these weak assed characters. Why, because ADULTS generally don't buy toys, or see the same movie 8 times. They just read the books that made your company what it is (er…was).

Yay! Miles Morales lives on! The Ultimate universe continues! Wow, I was kinda worried there!

... but...

No Captain America? No Thor? Did... did Cataclysm just kill off the majority of the freaking Ultimates to make room for these New Ultimates?

Wow. It's like they're ADDICTED to throwing out characters in this universe. Hell, there are so few characters left, it barely even resembles the Marvel Universe anymore! There's only two marquee characters left-- Spider-Man and Iron Man-- and one of 'em isn't even the same guy as he is in the 616!

Aww, well. It's not like I've been READING the Ultimate books for the past year or anything. I'm just glad that they're holding on to Miles, because I used to read that book religiously, and he's honestly the best thing the Ultimate universe has going for it.

Also: renaming Spider-Woman "Black Widow" and giving her a costume really close to the hourglass-sporting Jessica Drew Spider-Woman costume is... well, pretty damn clever. Way to simplify things and make that "Black Widow" superhero name a HELL of a lot more appropriate!

so now everyone in marvel is "POWER PACK"
(look it up trudy, its vintage marvel and only slightly above your reading level).

i'm old fashioned, i like superheroes who are old enough to make a mortgage payment (or at least know what one is)

vtopa - 1/10/2014, 2:08 PM
@Duncboy Seriously dude, that line is so old. Dick Rider? In all the years I read that book, not once was he referred to as dick, and if you think that Marv Wolfman (creator of Nova) and Stan Lee purposely did the name as a tongue-in-cheek, you are nuts. Its called "alliteration", something Lee was fond of (Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, etc). Enough already with the stupid Dick Rider jokes. They're really juvenile. The main point is that RICH Rider was an awesome character who developed beautifully over 4 decades, culminating with the DnA run, and then summarily trashed by Jeph Loeb. Bring back Rich is all I'm saying.

I bought my son some comics yesterday since he was home sick. The art is nice but the stories are complete shit! The best plots and characters are from the late 70's to early 90's with the occasional graphic novel here and there.

There's nothing new except changing classic characters race or sexual orientation just for the sake of it. I'd rather re-read decades worth of silver age comics than today's crap.

It's sad that recently I've only been purchasing Dark Horse. The only Marvel I liked recently were Hawkeye and Daredevil. DC has me with Swamp Thing, a character I've never read before.
DukeAcureds

Instead of being folded into the Marvel Universe, the Ultimates have been folded into Marvels constant reboot every half year scheme. I no longer have any investment in ongoing comics from Marvel, outside of Bendis' X-Men and Revolutionary War.
The MCU is the new Ultimates, as far as I'm concerned.

They should do a "What If... Galactus ate the All-New Marvel NOW Ultimates before they could save their universe" one-shot.

If DatScarlet is correct up above and they do use the Ultimate Universe as the major templat for McU it would make perfect sense. Look at it this way: they don't have the rights to Spiderman Sony does, but this is a different Spiderman they may have the rights to Miles
They don't have the rights to the Fantastic four, but they more than likely do have the rights for the Future Foundation, and finally it probably would take some lawyers to figure out if Fox has sole rights to Kitty under the circumstances.

With the dismantling in merging X-Men with the Avengers, and the events bringing the Inhumans more into the spotlight you have to figure there is a bigger plan to all this.

Just my two cents, Bravo DatScarlet

Although i won't be reading those (i don't feel like i'm the marketing target for that either, being much too old...) i'm kind of really happy that nowadays kids will be introduced to Machine Man! As a little kid I practically learned to read with threadbare second hand copies of his crazy adventures..Man I wish i still had those!
