Rick Remender and Jerome Opeña received almost unanimous critical acclaim for their run on Uncanny X-Force and they will be reteaming next year for original graphic novel, Avengers: Rage of Ultron. The book was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday and is being lined up for an April 2015 release to coincide with Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is set in continuity, and Remender was quick to point out how excited he is to be reteaming with Opeña and colourist Dean White. "Jerome is a nutjob. He's a lunatic. I've been working with him for a decade, and it's so great to be back with him. The storytelling comes first, and the absolute labor he puts into it. An OGN is perfect for him. It's literally the work of his life, and to be teamed back up with Jerome and Dean is so great." Here's an extended preview for you...

i agree with MutantMinority, that art is quite good. I like the dark tone that this comic is giving off. Granted most Ultron stories are pretty dark. Which mildly worries me when it comes to the movies. I hope Whedon's sense of humor doesn't take away the serious and depressing tone of Ultron's creation and personality.

I wonder if they are going to cut Pym out of this as well? It really wouldn't surprise me. The MCU has really started to influence the 616 Universe and I can't stand it. That's why I have stopped reading Marvel for the most part. Although, I am glad Hawkeye has his costume back, the movie costume is garbage and I cringe every time I see it in the comics. But I guess it has been so long since Hawkeye has had it that they forgot how to color it. It is entirely purple here, I don't see any blue.

Looks sexy as all hell, though if its going to have a Killing Joke esque moment then it REALLY shouldn't be set in the past unless this is simply a flashback intro part.

The movie title should have been Rage of Ultron

@RobertLiefield
wow, you actually sound like the true RobLiefield , lol
your comment is so idiotic.
What do you think Rick Remender are? He is the better writer than you.
If you Liefield still keep Ultron the Son of Pym in hero reborn stories then no way a massively greater writer than you like Rick can do that shit.

and Rick & Jerome already did an interview with both Newsarama and CBR at SDCC.
the story will explore further the relationship between Hank-ULtron-Vision family.

It take place in Present day of 616 continuity after the event of AXIS with Sam Cap and Jarhborn Thor. the Preview is just flashback from the old Byrne Avengers era

Hmmm... That's a pretty fragile Ultron for that era. Hell, even if he wasn't made out of Adamantium, Cap shouldn't be able to throw a shield through him any more than he could throw it through Iron Man.

Still, nice to be able to nerd-out on a comic again! I may have to pick this up, as it is set back in my day of comic reading...

The art looks pretty great! I haven't had any clue what's going on in comics storywise for years, so I can't comment on that. ^^

So this is a film tie in? Or a separate piece of work that uses the buzz surrounding the film to sell this book?

It was a given that Steve would be back as Captain America by the time Avengers 2 gets released.

Because the only thing Marvel uses the comics for nowadays is for Advertisement and not real story telling.

[frick] you Marvel.

[frick] you too DC.

[frick] you both.
