Marvel Entertainment and the Brooklyn Nets are proud to announce the creation of Brooklyn’s new Super Hero and the first one in NBA history. Enter BrooklyKnight, protector of Brooklyn’s hometown team, defender of New York’s largest and most courageous borough, and ruler of Barclays Center.

BrooklyKnight made his debut tonight in the Brooklyn Nets’ first-ever regular season game in their new home, Barclays Center, against the Toronto Raptors. Before the start of the game, the BrooklyKnight boldly landed at center court to inspire his team and rally the crowd. To commemorate the first appearance of this historic new sports icon, Marvel Custom Solutions worked with the Nets to create BrooklyKnight #1, an all-new 32-page comic book by Jason Aaron, writer of Thor: God of Thunder and Wolverine & The X-Men and illustrated by artist Mike Deodato of Amazing Spider-Man and New Avengers fame. All guests at tonight’s game received copies of the limited edition comic book.

"Brooklyn now has a new Super Hero to call its own," said Brett Yormark, CEO of the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center. "BrooklyKnight is a superior combination of strength, power, and confidence -- sounds just like Brooklyn to me."

"Marvel Entertainment has outdone itself with its newest Super Hero creation for the Brooklyn Nets," Brooklyn Nets Chairman Christophe Charlier said. "We are honored to have collaborated with the company of the world’s mightiest Super Heroes."

The BrooklyKnight will appear at all Brooklyn Nets home games and support his team against the invasion of opponents. He is equipped to handle almost any threat with a protective metal B on his chest, metal knee, elbow, and face coverings, defined muscles, including a six-pack, and a multi-functional cape.

"As a Brooklynite and a hardcore hoops fan, for me to get the opportunity to help create a Super Hero for my home borough's new team was a dream come true," said Axel Alonso, Editor in Chief, Marvel Entertainment. "Working with the Nets staff, we have created a team Super Hero that is unlike anything the NBA has ever seen; a timeless character who can stand shoulder to shoulder with icons like Spider-Man, Captain America, Wolverine, and Thor. Let's go, Nets!"

"Forged from the blood, sweat and tears of Brooklyn itself -- always ready to defend his home and defeat any challenger -- all hail the BrooklyKnight!" exclaimed Bill Rosemann, Editor, Marvel Custom Solutions. "When Nets fans meet their guardian, they will immediately know that the House of Ideas has once again unleashed a hero who will soon be known all over the world for his nobility, grit, and strength. Brooklyn, your champion is here!"

All guests at the Brooklyn Nets vs. Orlando Magic game at Barclays Center on Sunday, November 11, will receive a limited edition BrooklyKnight trading card, courtesy of Marvel Custom Solutions and the Brooklyn Nets.

This is so unnecessary. I know marvel is trying to expand into other media because joe already said it, but stuff like this is ruinning the main focus and quality at hand. The sad part is this art is better than most of the marvel now titles. The character looks lame and has a dumb name.

Sure, why not? Maybe in the future Marvel can partner up with other entertainment venues like Broadway. And down the line they could partner up with Wendy's and Crystals. WAAAAAYYY down the line they could even partner up with slightly smaller businesses like Mike Latamer Used Kia and Subaru on the corner of State Road 441 and 37th Street. I can see it know. Everyman Garth Saels Mann is imbued with the power of ultimate sales skills.

R u guys not good business men? This is genius!!! They r capitalizing on the
Single biggest thing in 2012(avengers) and using it to put fans in there seats!
Sure maybe his design is hilarious but great marketing idea.

Now, if I were the Knicks I would be doing anything possible to get Spider-Man. Can u imagine?

Why is everybody hating on this, they designed a mascot for the kids! I don't think the guy is gonna get an ongoing series, the book is probably a give away to the kids at the game. And he's ment to look silly, name me one mascot in any sport that looks like a good superhero or someone worthy of their on comicbook because they look so good???

. . . Well, I WAS all onboard the Brooklyn Nets train. We were so close to having to a respectable NBA team here in NY, but there aren't enough faceplam GIFs on the internet for this.

@ Gunsmith: High five, I thought the same thing.

You shouldn't get to do the whole Knight/Night thing if you're attaching it to another word.

It's a play on Brooklynite: people from Brooklyn.

I've always liked the Nets, but it is such a stupid name, like calling the Devils the New Jersey Pucks or something. The move was a perfect opportunity to change it, but no. Brooklyn Knights would've been cool. Or bring back the Brooklyn Dodgers - there's still a lot of goodwill associated with them. Even Jay-Z's Brooklyn Ballers suggestion would've been better than Nets. Now this garbage. Strike two.

Fun fact: The Nets name comes from when they were a New York team, and some genius thought it was clever to rhyme with Jets and Mets. Sounds even more retarded now, huh?

I heard the Nets were gonna have a mascot and of course it would be a "Brooklyn Knight," that's pretty much common sense.

As a LONG time NJ Nets fan who grew up during the Jason Kidd, Kenyon Martin days I was so excited for this opening and then they unveiled this MONSTROSITY!!

It almost completely ruined the opening ceremony! The arena got so quiet, it was sooo cheesy. It was just awful.

Its ok if they wanted to go with a superhero but a sports mascot is supposed to be cute and cuddly. They should've had an actual medieval knight as the mascot. I would've designed that soooo much better.

The Nets design team has literally DROPPED THE BALL ON THIS ONE!!!

I can't believe Marvel was behind this. smh. Just smh.
