COMICS: Marvel To Kill Off WOLVERINE In 2014?

The past few years has seen Wolverine become one of Marvel's most over saturated characters and his popularity has taken a slight knock after the events of Avengers Vs. X-Men. Regardless, a reliable source indicates that his time might finally be up next year! Read on for details.

According to the ever reliable lads over at Bleeding Cool, they've gotten word from Marvel's Creative Summit that, "next year there is a plan at Marvel to kill Wolverine." Apparently, it will be handled in a way which "gets round his healing factor and his seems supernatural deal to keep coming back from the grave." They go on to explain that Logan's involvement in Ultron War - which will see him and Susan Storm travelling back in time to recreate the Marvel Universe - will have some sort of effect on his body and that "even given his reputation as a bloodthirsty killer, this time he may have gone too far..." It's also worth noting that in an interview with Comic Book Resources, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said this about a possible return of Wolverine's son, Daken. "Daken’s name came up during our most recent Marvel creative retreat, but what that means, I’m afraid it’s too early to reveal to you at this juncture!" Will he replace his dad? A big storyline like this in 2014 would certainly make sense, especially as Hugh Jackman's live-action Wolverine is set to have a large role in X-Men: Days of Future Past. How do you guys feel about the possibility of Marvel killing off the popular mutant character? Sound off below!

The only way to kill Wolverine is to throw him in space...I'm sure someone is going to show a scan of Wolverine in space. -_-...

Oh comic book death, why don't you mean anything anymore. The only death of a major character that I really liked lately was Ultimate Spidermans.

I don't even know why this deserves a thread. Superman fudged it all up for death. Nobody dies in comics. NOBODY.

@ JoeMomma29 - Pretty sure that that is Spider-Man...not Wolverine, at least if we're talking by sales.

Spider-Man = Batman
Wolverine = GL
X-Men = Superman

In recent years.

Yes let's kill characters while their movies are out.

That won't defeat the purpose of movies at all.

Wolverine to Be Killed Off in 2014!

Next headline:

Wolverine to Return in 2015!

But seriously, if Wolverine vanished from comics I would not shed a tear. While I could understand the Wolverine appeal, I was never part of it, mostly because I just never found him that compelling a character. Just my personal opinion, of course, but...yeah, okay, he's a tough little hairball that has the grit when the chips are down, fine and dandy. But what ELSE is he, besides a power fantasy for under-sized 14-year-old males? I generally found him to be all attitude, no substance. Once in a while somebody writes Wolvie with the right combination of attributes to feel complex and involving, but as far as I'm concerned it's pretty rare.

As long as they do it after DOFP, and as long as he goes out in an epic and inspiring way.

Or you know, maybe Marvel can take all of their titles and skip to the Days of Future Past future timeline and start telling stories from that point on.

F*** I MISS X-MEN 2099

hey! F#$@ YOU kill Deadpool!

Wolvie is a 'tentpole' character that is as popular as Spider-Man and Hulk in the MU. Surprised that they would get rid of him - unless they have decided that there's nothing more that they can do with him. Origins told of his youth, Old Man Logan is him as an old man - what else is left, really? Unless they don't kill him, but put him Dr. Octopus' body

Daken was an amazing character and he death was classic! I say kill Wolvie and change his direction or something because he currently just sucks, everything about him has gone downhill. But for his team up with the old Spider man
