COMICS: Marvel To Launch SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN Ongoing Series This July

It appears as if the Superior Spider-Man won't be going anywhere for a while just yet as Marvel has today announced Superior Foes of Spider-Man; a new ongoing series from Nick Spencer (Secret Avengers) and artist Steve Lieber (Hawkeye).

Despite speculation that Otto Octavius' time as the "Superior" Spider-Man would be coming to an end this summer, that now seems highly unlikely as July will see the launch of Superior Foes of Spider-Man. The ongoing series will focus on Boomerang, Shocker, Speed Demon, the Beetle, and Overdrive, with the majority of the story taking place from the point of view of Boomerang (a character who recently found a lot of newfound popularity in Jeff Parker's Thunderbolts). "It's Boomerang's gang, though obviously, these characters being who they are, that authority won't go unquestioned," said writer Nick Spencer. "With the number of times Spidey's gone head to head with them, of course they're going to notice changes. In some ways, they know Spider-Man better than anyone.

"A big part of this book is definitely showing you the life behind the costume," he adds. "A lot of the time we spend with them, the masks are off. That was actually my pitch here: that these guys, they're actually a lot like Spider-Man, in the classic sense of the character," said Spencer. "They don't have the innate nobility or the desire to do the right thing, but they're hard-luck stories, just like Peter Parker is/was. They're not shooting for the stars so much as trying to survive. Every time they win in one part of their lives, they lose in another. So there's something intrinsically cool and intriguing about that mirror aspect of the relationship." What do you guys think? Any interest in this series?!

shocker & beetle are alright but wouldn't the sinister six be a "superior foes of spider-man" than these.

Why not do a Sinster Six book? I don't even know who most of these characters are except for Shocker.

Seems intriguing to me. Definitely a different direction! Wasn't there a Joker graphic novel that was really good?

That's Overdrive, who recently upgraded the Big Wheel. He's a newer character. As is Lady Beetle, who is the latest version of the Beetle and was introduced in Captain America (I beleive).

The Shocker is the most well known, but Boomerang has been around for ages too - he was originally a Hulk villain. Speed Demon was originally the Whizzer and a part of the Sqaudron Sinister (Avenger villains and evil versions of the Squadron Supreme).

So, those three are fairly well established.

Along with the Living Brain (who has since been rehabilitated) they were the latest incarnation of the Sinister Six.

Presumably, they'll be getting a new sixth member.

@thatcoldblackcloud- The House of Ideas has been out of ideas since the 616 and Ultimate universes crossed over. Even Marvel said if that were to happen, then they had run out of ideas. But does that stop them from putting out more pointless crap that nobody cares about? Nope.

It's really shows how much marvel have f*cked up spidey when the 3 best spider titles don't even have Peter Parker in them ( ultimate, scarlet spider, venom)
