that is sexy! I like how Steve and Bucky switched rolls as Captain America and Winter Soldier (that's what it looks like anyway). Does Steve have a weapon/power or is he just blond Nick Furry with out an eye-patch?

Steve looks bad-ass in that new get up. He's evolving as a character. I think he will be perfect as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D can't wait to pick this up. Such an odd selection of people. Gotta read to see how it all pans out.

@jusme, I'm sure he will have something useful in that costume. If not he's already strong and athletic.

it is interesting that Bucky will be donning the Captain America persona longer now. I'm excited for everything coming coming. THE HEROIC AGE HAS BEGUN.lol

i dont really like steve's costume i like the fact hes evolving as a character like blackair was saying but one of the most iconic things about cap was his shield. and looks like he doesnt have one there.

Wow...Cap's new threads are completely uninspired and look like it was ripped from the 90's. Glad I stick to the classics.

I think this is a great lineup! It's especially brilliant to see Beast as an Avenger once again! :) However, I'm more interested in what role in the MU this team will have...they're obviously not going to be a kill squad like X-Force but there has to be a damn good reason why they're secret!

It's great to see Cap in a new costume with a new role (fingers crossed for head of S.H.I.E.L.D!) but you can guarantee that he'll be back wielding the shield before his movie is released!!!

MOON KNIGHT MOON KNIGHT MUTHA [frick]ING MOON KNIGHT!

Glad my favorite Marvel character is back on a team, lol. Loved his "revival" by Charlie Huston back in 2006, and though it kinda went stagnant after Huston left, the relaunch with Vengeance of the Moon Knight has been awesome. And now that both Stark Industries AND Oscorp are in the toilet, all we have left is SpectorCorp! Moonie is back, baby!

Now if they only would speed things up with his television series...

I may be alone in thinking this, but it seems to me that Marvel are trying to push some of their B-and-C-list characters into the limelight by teaming them with A-list, better established characters, possibly with the intention of deciding on which properties to make movie franchises out of in the coming decade.

And the Steve Rogers outfit reminds me of an old Cap rip-off character from the '60s called The Shield, though I can't remember what company produced those comics.

I agree that Brubaker is a hell of a writer and if anyone can make the best of the team dynaics possible with this selection of characters, he can, but this feels as though it's a cynical marketing ploy and Brubaker was chosen to write this because of his success record.

I just can't get over this feeling like a very cynical move on Marvel's behalf and it might turn round and bite them in the ass.

it better not be pete! the "rewrite" of the clone saga left ben reilly breathing so it better be him! peter cant leave NY and he cant be an xman! that would be whack! but if its reilly.... then i might be interested....

Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 2:36 PM
and actually while were talkin about vampires, its hard to picture blade on a team with anyone, let alone a vampire jubilee. it says on marvel.com something like "whats blades problem with the new xmen?" so far its all pretty confusing

JoshWilding - 4/15/2010, 2:41 PM
I'm not sure what to think about those X-Men teasers...maybe it's something to do with them taking a bigger role in the Marvel Universe or some sort of team up? Whatever it is, I wish that one of Jeph Loeb's crappy new Hulk's wasnt included! I avoid anything with the Hulk on the cover like the plague these days, lol! :P

And am I the only one sick of seeing Deadpool EVERYWHERE!?! He has a pile of ongoing series (when there are other characters more deserving) and is guest starring in every other damned title as well!

As much as I love the Avengers, this looks really lame. This is not an interesting group of characters, and that costume on Rogers looks like something left over from the 90's. All he needs is a ponytail, a hoop earring or two, and some cartoonishly huge guns. This looks like $4 I can save towards buying more older stories. Sounds like some of y'all like this, and more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. It just doesn't catch my interest. And how many #1's is this for the Avengers now? I thought we got past the constant renumbering of books to create more #1's after the '90s.

And that X-Men thing? God, that's some awful looking art! Could be the worst X-artist since that guy that made everyone look like Geddy Lee. I'll pass on that too. Hey, $8 saved now!

I just see very, very little in Marvel anymore that gets me even wanting to open a book up, which is sad, because I traditionally prefer Marvel to DC. I love the anticipation of getting new books and finding out how the cliffhanger at the end of the last story is resolved, but Marvel has killed my interest, first with the Shitvil War, then with a seemingly nonstop barrage of overblown "events" that render most books unreadable unless you buy 10 other books you don't care about to know what is going on. Ah, for the old days, when one book a month (or two for top guys like Spidey or Batman) was all you needed to buy to follow a character or group! Better stories and often better art were a reasonable tradeoff for the prettier color palate they use now.

DannyRand@ "Jeph Loeb raped the Hulk to death. I mean the entire Marvel Universe is teaming up to fight the Sentry in Seige 4, and the one guy whose ever beaten him is off fighting the Red and Purple hulks."

Sir, you can't see it but I'm giving you a standing ovation right now.

Dunno, MARVEL did much better with DARK AVENGERS, this just feels the same type of thing without the supervillains! : D

Seems MARVEL is running outta ideas!! ; D

i agree that the rogers costume is a little lack luster. he's got to have some kind of weapon or something. he should've had tony stark hook him up with some cool tech. that is, if it's not to out of character for them after that little spat they had called civil war;)

The dark reign has been pretty fun with norman, and loki, the dark avengers, daken/romulus, SIEGE... but the heroic age is gonna SUCK. its shit like "hulked out heroes" and "spidey on the xmen" or anything else with deadpool fighting or becoming a pirate that is gonna have me RUNNING back to the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE. sure they killed Wolverine in ULTIMATUM, but the new "ULTIMATE X" (with logans son jimmy) has me wayyyyy more excited than spiderman moving to san francisco to team up with blade, she-hulk, and magneto. and steve rogers with no shield is just stupid, especially with the movie getting started...
Makiveli21
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 3:08 PM
bucky is NOT and WILL NEVER BE captain america. they shoulda killed him in SIEGE and made it a big dramatic thing like even tho norman loses, he still makes an impactful evil bloody kill that affects everybody, especially rogers.

This is indeed a very unique cast of characters. We have all aspects of super heroes. We have a mutant= beast, a tech based= war machine, a goddess= Valkyrie, a mystic= moon knight, a celestial being= nova, and a human leader= Steve Rogers. I wonder if he will be just called Steve Rogers or have a new mantle. This roster brings us all aspects in the Marvel hero Universe. I'm all for new ideas and reinventing characters, if done properly. I can't wait to see how this will all pan out. Not only having Steve stepping down as Captain America and giving that role and legacy to Bucky, but it also shows a new shift in story telling Marvel is willing to do in order to progress a character. Could Rogers be the first in doing this. Maybe spidey will past down the mantle and live a normal life.

@Lee, I love DC just as much man. Brightest day will be interesting. lol. As for Dark Avengers, we may see them or at least a few back with the new Thunderbolts with Cage as the leader. I think they took way too long to progress the team. They weren't exactly the best team. All of Osborn's goals failed or got smoked trying to handle them. I can't wait to see how it ends with #16.

I wonder where Victoria Hand will be in this. Will her role be expanded in any of the Avenger titles. Will she be running Avengers Academy? I'm excited for all the possibilities the Heroic Age will be bringing.

JoshWilding - 4/15/2010, 3:16 PM
LEE: Thanks man but running out of ideas? This looks great to me! And dont forget - we're going to have two other Avengers teams as well! [frick] DC and their constantly changing continuity, lol! How can you care about characters like Flash and Green Lantern when there's been several people who've worn the costume!? MAKE MINE MARVEL!!! :D

Makiveli21: I have to disagree - I think that the Heroic Age will be pretty great especially after years of events like Civil War, Secret Invasion and Dark Reign changing the status quo every year or two...it'll be good to see the heroes back on top!

BlackAirs87: Well said! As for Victoria Hand, I've never been a huge fan of the character but he has a lot of potential..! I cant wait to see how things end in Dark Avengers #16 but are you also disapointed that Spider-Man vs. Osborn came down to just one punch? I hope there will be more because there hasnt been enough done between the characters during Dark Reign IMO!

Telavizion, Namor is 'Marvel's First Mutant' meaning he is the first mutant to appear in Marvel comics, not that he was the first one in continuity.

Many moons ago Marvel was toying with this idea that all the heroes were mutants, from the FF to Hulk. Unlike many mutants whose powers manifest at puberty, these mutants X-gene lay dormant awaiting a catalyst to jump start it. For Spidey, a radio-active spider bite, for Hulk a Gamma Explosion, etc. I wonder if they aren't finally moving on that idea?

@joshW, yeah the one hit punch Spidey did on Norman was pretty weak. As for the We are X-men thing with having people who aren't mutants joining the team, We don't know how its gonna play out. So give it time. Thats why its called a teaser image.
