COMICS: Who Withstood the Cataclysm? Find Out In First Look At SURVIVE #1

This March, the Ultimate Universe attempts to rebuild from total devastation at the hands of Galactus. But with every ending there comes a new beginning – and the next stage of the Ultimate Universe starts in Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quinones Survive #1. Check it out!

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds descended upon the Ultimate Universe with an insatiable hunger. Though he was defeated by the bravery of a small band of heroes – the cost was devastatingly high. New York City lays a smoldering ruin, and not everyone made it back alive. Many of the Ultimates are dead – and the remaining heroes are all beaten, broken, and emotionally drained.

“You’ve got all these characters [that] have been through hell together and now they’re coming out the other side and they’re kind of committed to each other, now that Captain America’s gone and some other characters aren’t making it back,” says writer Brian Michael Bendis in an interview with Marvel.com.

“A lot of these characters are very young, and with that comes a lot of emotion, a lot of drama, a lot of people making some disastrous mistakes both in their professional and in their personal lives; and all of that will be on display right away.”

Witness the birth of a new team of Ultimates! Who survived the fury of Galactus? Who didn’t make it out alive? What will become of S.H.I.E.L.D? The future of the Ultimate Universe is happening now! All your questions will be answered this March in SURVIVE #1!

I hate to be this guy, but...

What the hell's up with Sue's breasts in the first image, the cover? The left one is down by her elbow and the right one is way smaller.

Either that or it's very odd perspective/shading.

Better than I could do, of course...but still...I'm not getting paid for it.

I pity whoever's still invested in this universe.

With all my heart, I did not think it possible to care less about this imprint. I was a fool!

Yeah, at this point they've killed off all the best characters. This imprint is on life support.

I thought the whole point was that Galactus was going to eat that universe and it would be over.

This Cataclysm storyline is just a metaphor for how Loeb's Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum were the crushing end of the Ultimate Universe, and everything since then's been attempts to do something with the pieces.

Why does Falcon look like he has dwarfism?

Why is Marvel still pumping resources into these titles, when they should just stay commited to kill it off, and do Marvel reboot 3.0. Hopefully it clicks

While I haven't been a fan of the Ultimate U since it's "Loeb-otimization" there is some opportunity here. There are tons of character that don't get a second glance in the 616 that could come to prominence in an Ultimate Universe where all the A-List characters are dead. Darkhawk, Agents of Atlas, Sleepwalker and 3D man come to mind. You could even have a not-crazy version of the Sentry pop up. In terms of villains I don't think they've tackled Graviton or Count Nefaria over in the Ultimate U either. Kristoff could always take up the mantle of Doctor Doom. There's possibilities anyways.

The Ultimate universe is still dying. Reed has seen its blank future. It just wasn't Galactus that takes it out.

Yeah, I hate to admit it but it was the first thing I noticed in the first cover. The second thing I noticed was Storm's shrunken breast (there is clearly only one on her in that pic). The third thing I noticed was the *ahem* creative proportions on Falcon.

I don't think I care for this artist...

Whoah. Sue has a Super Droopy Booby in that cover.

@CoreyxYeroc- It's called Deoxys.

The boobs are drawn correctly in proportion. The hair coming down makes an illusion of a shoulder where there isn't one which makes it look wonky. But it isn't if you trace the shoulder line. It's proper, although a bit of wavy hair could have made it look more so.

"Loeb-otimization"

I like that. You make a good point, Mister Beane. But I've given up completely on the Ultimate Universe, and I wish marvel would, too.

I still feel punked about this. They cheated us on the promise of keeping what little integrity this franchise had left, by quitting whilst it was still ahead. Now it's going all High School Musical. Having said that, Kitty Pryde and Galactus in a fist fight? That will stay with me. I liked the reference to the Avengers movie, too, what with the portal closing and one of the Avengers sacrificing himself.

Can anyone make a list of the Ultimate characters who became part of a Galactus sammich?
