Obviously last year you were famously wrapped up in the "Donald Glover for Spider-Man" campaign, and now we’ve got a black Spider-Man in one version of continuity that some say looks a little bit like you. Have you been speaking to Marvel about anything that we should know about?

(laughs) Look I think for a long time people know that I have an iron grip over there, I’m very strong at the Marvel Comics (laughs) people really respect me over there. No, [comic book writer Brian Bendis] got the idea from seeing a Community episode actually, cause I was in like Spider-Man pajamas, which I thought was pretty great. It’s funny, people say he looks like me, I don’t see it that much, but I know he was influenced by me. I can’t wait to have grandkids and be like, "Yup, that’s me." It’s really cool. The nerd respect I’ve gotten is quite large. Also the hate mail is pretty great, the hate tweets are pretty great, "You killed Peter Parker!"

But you’re not necessarily gonna show up to Andrew Garfield’s house?

And be like "Hey," just drop the new cover there. No, no. But it’s pretty great.

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

They shouldn't have killed off Peter. They still could have done Miles, and keep both of them, maybe have him grow up in Chicago or somewhere.

The more ethnicity's writing comics and creating character's within the industry, the more ethnic super hero's they'll be.If ethnicity's disapprove of the disproportionate causation superheros in comics, then they should fulfill the industry requirements of writers and artists, get a job and change it within. Don't stand on the sidelines and complain because it seems 'unfair' and expect pity. If someone doesn't like the way comic book companies do business, then get involved and change it.

The detractors are either just super nerdy to a fault or maybe a little tinged with racism. You guys know that campaign was a joke right? No one really thought he'd play spiderman. Again, as the resident comedy geek, I have to vouch for the fact that he is a hilarious comic and I don't know how anyone can hear him in interview and think he's anything but a nice guy. Calm down, nerds.

How come when white super heroes are replaced with another race it's always an african american? Why not a Chinese spiderman or a Pacific Islander?

Sounds like Marvel is pretty racist. Can't wait for the white Black Panther and Native American Luke Cage.

I like this guy. And if ya look closely he does sorta resemble the new Spidey. Quite an honor if ya ask me. Peter Parker will always be Spidey, though. This new kid is just another incarnation is all, he's not taking anyone's place.
SpiderFan35
SpiderFan35 - 8/24/2011, 8:27 PM
He would be a good Spidey in a movie, he certainly has the comedic side down for Spidey's quips. Not sure how he would be with the serious side but who knows? Maybe someday.

I dont get the hate about this... it would be one thing if they rebooted and made Peter Parker black, though I think that would be pretty interesting, but in the story, Peter died. Now someone else is picking up the mantle, and it just so happens that this person is black. The only reason you could be mad at this is if you are racist and don't want to see minorities as "supreme beings", only white guys. The PR stunt was killing Peter Parker, making him black just adds some new flavor to the story of Spider-Man. Plus it's the Ultimate Universe anyway, if you don't like it, stick with normal continuity, which you were probably already doing, and don't get your panties in a bunch!
SciFiNut
SciFiNut - 8/24/2011, 10:15 PM
As coy as he is being about the whole thing, I still think it is utterly ridiculous for this guy to think he is the sole reason that Spidey is now black in the Ultimate Universe.

I'm not racist (but I'll be labeled one after this) but my reasoning with not liking the new spiderman being black (and hispanic) is that you had to take a popular white character and make him black. I couldn't care less about his color of skin, I fell in love with spiderman because of the person he is and the way I connected with him. My problem is that they had to take a popular white character and make him half black and hispanic to satisfy the respected communities and try to up the sales in those markets. What would the black community do if they did the same thing to Blade or Black Panther? *Chim in the haters and trolls.*

There was a Japanese Live action Spiderman show.

Equal opportunity has come to both comics and movies. There was a time not too long ago when actors were cast for both their appearance fitting the character and their ability to play them. It seems all this started about the time I think it was the casting of thr Hobbit where a casting director said to an extra auditioner who I think was middile eastern or indian (i forget) that their appearance wasnt what they were looking for.

If you ask me if they are going to completely change up a character just make a new character.

They should just call him spiderkid. He is just way too young.
