Jonathan Hickman's House of X and Powers of X have delivered huge twists and turns from the start, but today's fourth issue of the former series might just be the most shocking to date. As the X-Men attacked the Mother Mold in outer space, both Archangel and Husk were confirmed dead after the explosion which rocked the team's ship at the end of the previous issue.

Sage, meanwhile, is taken out by a group of human soldiers while covering Jean Grey's escape, and Mystique ends up being jettisoned into outer space in what proves to be a particularly grizzly end for the longtime anti-hero.

Things get even grimmer for the team as they realise that the only way to break the final locking mechanism is to go outside fully in reach of the sun. Nightcrawler teleports into space with Wolverine and immediately turns to dust. Logan makes good use of his healing factor and slices away the final lock before drifting into the sun along with that huge Sentinel head.

Cyclops tries to get back to Jean, but he's shot at point blank range in the head as a helpless Marvel Girl is destroyed by a group of Sentinels. A tearful Professor X vows "No More" as the issue ends.

In the first issue we saw Xavier watching what appeared to be the birth of a number of mutants from Krakoa, so there's a possibility he knows how to bring them back, or that these aren't even the real versions of the characters. Needless to say, the plot has thickened!

@knocturnalzen10 - @knocturnalzen10 - I agree. Such emotion. I felt for it. And I'm loving this series but I have a small issue though and it came from being super surprised that the X-men....lost. They died and lost. And I see where it went wrong and I WISH I could post the page but the whole point was to shut off 4 simple switches. That's it. 4 people 4 switches. Problem is you have night crawler teleporting ALL OVER but after he throws a switch it shows him ...running from it in a different direct (wish I could post the pic!) He absolutely should have just teleported to the other two and just thrown the switches game over! But nope. The X-men kinda dies like amateurs. Mystique didn't shape shift at all and cyclops got shot in the back and Jean just screamed with no fight? Idk. Great tension and suspense but the xmen went down like rookies. imo

I mean, isn't the whole premise of this arc that Moira can die and be reborn a number of times and alter her timeline? If it was only a few of those deaths that occurred then fair enough, but killing off most of the main cast when I'm pretty sure they said Moira might have one more life left seems a bit convenient to me.

Still cool though, looking forward to checking these out when they release collected editions.

I got so excited when I learned Hickman was relaunching X-Men, but this story is a sloppy convoluted unfamiliar mess. I'm not sure I can read anymore of it. Too bad there are still no good X-titles happening.

Not the real x-men, they are pod people. Awesome awesome issue. The kurt/logan moment hurt bad

Obvious feint - I might believe it about the others, but they're not going to kill off Wolverine "permanently" after just recently bringing him back from such a state.

Been weirdly enjoying this series. Those last pages showing all the deaths and genocides of mutants was a gut punch

We already know they'll be back, we jist don't know how.
Could be thanks to Moira's 11th life for all we know.
Loved thst moment between Logan and Kurt tho... damn. :(

Using Death, Rape and Reincarnation over and over again to tell a story (sell books) has made them very disposable.

How it can be affecting when you know its just going to be retconned - its just hollow sensationalism.

Something is very off about this "X". And there's the whole pod scene in the first issue where Cyclops and Jean seem to be born from said pods. These "X-Men" must be clones and if that's true, then where are the real ones?

Me thinks Minister Sinister will be showing up pretty soon...

@MutantEquality-agreed! but i felt like Scott finally felt like a leader compared to that trash they write him in films . Mystique getting blown away in the hach was hilarious to me for some reason .... but yes crawler could've easily assisted to make it a smoother mission ironically lol smh but i love what he's doing with the characters. he's imo making X-men matter again

@Odinborn
I keep thinking they're pod people too, except in this issue we see that Cyclops only has his left eye glowing in the visor. It suggests this really is the Cyclops that lost his right eye in Uncanny a few months back.

@rabid - Oh dang, I missed that. Then I really don't know where they're going with this series, but that's what is so exciting.
