POLL: What Did You Think Of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN?

Avengers Vs. X-Men is over, so as "Marvel NOW!" gets nearer, it's time for you guys to cast your votes on the event which ended an era of storytelling and creative teams at the House of Ideas. Hit or Miss? Team Avengers or Team X-Men? Here's your chance to decide!

Avengers Vs. X-Men was certainly a success in terms of sales, but how did it fare with you, the readers? The reaction from critics has certainly been mixed, with the series criticised for unconvincing characterisation and an uneven tone. As a fan, I certainly wasn't happy with how it turned out. Why? Well, it seems that the whole purpose of Avengers Vs. X-Men was to capitalise on the success of box office juggernaut Marvel's The Avengers, leaving us with countless titles featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes in "Marvel NOW!", even if it means throwing away years worth of work other writers have done on the likes of Cyclops and Magneto. Well, now it's your turn to share your thoughts on the event. And exactly whose side were you on at the end?

It wasn't awful, but it was the biggest waste of an opportunity ever. I enjoyed the VS book more than the main one I think...

it wasnt bad. it was the generic "fight first- team up later" that we have seen a thousand times before, but at least now there are new mutants again. so they can stop beating the "no more mutants" dead horse for a while.....

Meh. It had it's good moments but over all meh. Especially the ending. Plus it just made the X-men look like retards. But then said, "Oh well, maybe they were right." The last few issues I was like

Seriously?

Was hoping for a more epic finale or purpose for Hope after all the events and comics leading up to this.

This event should've been thought out more. It was aight but the next Marvel event, I'm just going to wait until it's in TPB format. Except Age Of Ultron.

Couldnt have said it better myself, Josh.

Hated it. Some of the fighting was cool but the story was absolute garbage. The X-Men are ruined now and unless they rewrite all that happened its going to stay that way.

if you take the main book of 12 issues, the vs issues & the tie in's as well,i would say it was a good storyline.

definetly not the best event book but it was better than fear itself & siege.

I liked it more than Siege and Fear Itself, but it was pretty meh. It had its moments, but overall not a great story.

@Equinox it is definetly one of the biggest events ever but not the biggest remember DC's Kingdom Come & Blackest Night?! to name a few...

This by far the worst even ever.

I understand going with the Avengers since they made so much money at the box office. But still this is way to far.

Cyclops a killer? Xavier dead yet again? Luke Cage not mentioned one time in Marvel Now? Black Panther and Ororo on the split?

They should have taken a look at Blackest Night to learn how to tell a story.

OH and what the hell was with that smirk by Captain America at the end of 12?

MARVEL needs to get their heads out of their asses and try and write good comics. They're killing in the film department, but leaving their comics and television out to dry. They keep making their heroes into villains and unlikable characters!!! Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Hulk, Professor X, even Thor, and now Cyclops!!! What's next!?!?!

DC may not have the best movies out (although they're working on that), but at least their books are more consistent. I don't care for their Superman, but other than that they have a lot better chance at getting people into their comics. This is why I quit reading Marvel years ago.

Marvel, I will always see your films and watch them over and over, but I will also see DC's films, and watch their TV shows, and read their comics. DC = superior characters & superior story. That is all.

marvel needs to ease up on these massive event books & go back to the days of self contained stories of a particular family of titles.

x-titles

-dark phoenix saga
-days of future past
-mutant massacre
-fall of the mutant
-inferno
-x-tinction agenda
-x-cutioners song
-fatal attractions
-age of apocalypse
-operation zero tolerence
-the rise & fall of the shiar
-endangered species
-supernovas
-manifest destiny
-the messiah complex
-second coming

these stories were better than most of these huge events.

Those were all superior stories

@ marvel72 I agree with both you're comments man. PREACH.

I loved the event, wasn't perfect, but its very understandable why certain things happened, and it was a great step to marvel now. So bring on NOW!

Meh. The only good thing that's come out of Marvel lately has been Brubaker's Cap... Even Spidey's a book for children now, the character's gone downhill since Life Theft.
jimpinto24
jimpinto24 - 10/8/2012, 9:53 AM
AVX stated off great, but by #8 is when it started going downhill. AVX #12 did have clunky artwork, and I dislike it when characters are not in character.

Total character assassination of Cyclops. Folks who don't see it this way may have only been into these books for several years. I've been reading X-Men for 30-plus years, and I've had time to read all the Lee/Kirby books as well.

Cyclops was written terribly out of character, and all the recent Messiah Complexes and Schizms in the world can't make the case for turning this around.

No, Cyclops wasn't the X-Men. But in that light, Captain America isn't the Avengers and Mr. Fantastic isn't the Fantastic Four. You write THOSE characters out-of-character and expect people to sit quietly.

I've said it before --- for Cyclops to kill Professor X [before he turned into Dark Phoenix] is just garbage. All the other Phoenix 5s were written IN CHARACTER. Namor's a hothead, Frost is a bitch, Magik is a demon. Collossus is an artist/pacifist [wholet Hulk defeat him in order to save Utopia.]

They pissed all over Cyclops ------ and as someone else had mentioned: Cap is being a hypocrite because he set friend against friend in Civil War. Now he's got a nice high-horse and is rewriting his own history. Scapegoating.

Didn't dig it.

ATrueHero1987 - 10/8/2012, 10:27 AM
@HalloweenJack That's not being written out of character. That's CHARACTER development.

this event was shit. butchered cyclops and the x men to (just as josh said) capitalize on the success of the avengers movie. personally even though the x men were clearly written as the "bad guys", i felt the avengers were the real villains.

@marvel 72- agreed!
