6 years on....Can hardly believe it has been 6 long years since Thor first hit cinemas and 6 years since Chris Hemsworth became a household name.

Yes, 6 years ago Aussie born Chris Hemsworth went from boy on the beach to becoming the man with the hammer. Taking up the helm of thor God of Thunder was always going to be a huge undertaking but he clearly killed it as he has since gone on to become a household name and Thor has quickly become a fan favorite in the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. How does the film hold up though?

Directed by the legendary Kenneth Branagh and starring the likes of Stellan Skarsgard, Natalie Portman and Sir Anthony Hopkins this movie didn't have to worry about star appeal. thor not only introduced us to Hemsworth as the titular character but also gave us the MCU's most loved and memorable villain, Loki, playe exceptionally well by Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston and Hemsworth back and forth is made more real by how obvious their chemistry is. Their sibling rivalry and banter make it clear that there is love there and yet there is also a lot of deep seated animostiy as well.

The MCU is known for its incredible action sequences and Thor comes straight out the gate with an amazing monologue driven past scene featuring Asgard going to war with the Frost Giants. Anthony Hopkins, right from this opening monologue dominates any and all scenes he is present in. This somewhat shows through in scenes with Hemsworth where Chris' lack of Hollywood appearances shows through a tad but he still holds his own well enough. Chris Hemsworth, though not entirely confident here, never ceases to impress when in the big action scenes. That said the scenes that really matter in these movies (the huge final battles) fall a bit short here. The Destroyer is a cool enemy though some poor choices where made throughout resulting in Thor as we know and love him appearing late and ending things early.

It has its flaws, but personally, Thor is still one of my favorite MCU movies to rewatch. It's pretty simple and not one of the best films in the MCU, but I find it very entertaining.
