With Midnighter #1 now on stands and just in time for LGBT Pride Month, DC All Access presents a brief history of LGBT characters found within the DC Universe, featuring The Advocate's Jase Peeples. From the early days of the Comics Code all the way to Catwoman's recent same-sex kiss, Jase looks at touchstones and turning points, revealing how far we've come and illustrating why it's so important that comics remain inclusive. DC doesn't care about characterization or their characters sexual preferences. Just as long as they have ridiculous over the top powers which make them stronger than Marvel characters.That's all that matters.

DC comics doesn't care about 'diversity'. It cares about money - and this article demonstrates that they saw an under supported market, supported it and conned you into spending money because it fits your view of the world.

I'm so happy that DC and Marvel are embracing all different races, sexual preferences and giving women more spotlight. Not only because this reflects the real world, but I love watching fearful white men have meltdowns at the inevitable mainstream acceptance of modes of being outside the mainstream heteronormative paradigm.

What I'm looking forward to is how diverse the DC films are looking. As a Polynesian, I never thought I'd see any heroes that look like me. But now I'm getting Momoa as Aquaman and the Rock as Black Adam! It's [frick]ing insane! And an Israeli Wonder Woman, Cyborg, possibly John Stewart for GLAdam Beach as Slipknot, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and [frick]ing Katana too! I'm really excited to see the direction the DCCU will take.

I am curious as to what some consider "edgy" means. I think that is a fairly subjective term, as I don't find DC any more "edgy" than Marvel is and I have followed DC much longer than I have Marvel.

So wait a sec.....it's OK when Bucky, Damien Wayne, Eric Masterson and so on take up the mantle of their mentors. But when it's someone from a different ethnicity it's a disservice to that character. I want more diversity, but I don't see it as wrong for an already established character to step up. Creating new successful characters like the new Ms Marvel is a step in the right direction. But let's not leave our characters that have been around for decades to not evolve.

"Diversity"? Don't the comics feature people with all kinds of behaviour? Some good behaviour and some bad. If we are talking about people who are born a certain way, that is a different topic. Or if we are talking about something happening to someone after they are born, that is a different story.

@TheRealistStarLord - interesting opinion. Did you form it as a result of being conditioned from birth to follow tenets from a self-contradictory book written by crazy humans? A book that isn't even close to its original form? A book in which I can GUARANTEE there are tenets that YOU violate on a consistent basis. Stick to comics dude, they're more believable.

Just evolve or get the [frick] out please. Yes, companies definitely become more "diverse" in order to tap other markets. No one can really dispute that. Some of the creators however, have come up with some great ideas and implemented them well...Phil Jimenez being one who comes to mind. Look at what both companies are doing now...seems like they're changing all their heroes in an attempt to attract new people who don't read comics to begin with. I think the characters are taking a backseat to profit.

I DO know that politicians on the other hand, definitely do have an agenda.
