Deadline report that NBC's Constantine show has gained a trio of impressive new cast members. Joining Matt Ryan as the titular foul mouthed occultist will be Lucy Griffiths as Liv, Harold Perrineau as Manny, and Charles Halford as Chas. Readers of the Vertigo Hellblazer comic will know Chas well, but the other two appear to be new characters created just for the show. Deadline provide some details on them.

"Liv is an offbeat young woman tired of her ordinary life who comes to discover that she has the ability of seeing the supernatural world among us, which makes her a key player in the battle between good and evil. Liv teams up with Constantine to save lives, master her power, and learn more about her late father. Perrineau will play Manny, an authoritative angel assigned to watch over Constantine who has the power to step into other people’s bodies, and although he is meant only to observe, Manny will not hesitate to help out if he can save a life. Halford will play Chas, Constantine’s oldest friend and staunch companion who possesses powerful survival skills that might possibly be supernatural."

The show will be produced by The Mentalist executive producer Daniel Cerone and, the man who now very much seems to be DC/WB's go-to-guy, David S. Goyer. Constantine centers on John Constantine, an "enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond". The character is also expected to pop up in Guillermo del Toro's Dark Universe (an adaptation of the Justice League Dark comic book) and of course was already featured in his own movie starring Keanu Reeves - though thankfully this next incarnation will be a bit more blond..and British.

As long as they make Constantine a bad-ass, I'm fine.

Halford was great on True Detective. Can't wait. Now we got Arrow, Flash, Constantine, and Gotham to hold us over until May 2016.

Why make a new character when Zatanna works fine? Plus I would have liked Swamp Thing to have shown up too. I hope this show will be good. I'm not sure if it will but I'll be watching it anyway.

Also I think Guillermo del Toro's Justice League Dark is going to have to star a different cast. Plus I would want it too. This way JLD does not have to be a water downed film so it still works with the tv show.

Parrineau is great. He should've been papa midnite though. But I have high hopes for this show. Gotham on the other hand... :s

So, I guess we need to google images of the other roles mentioned to see what the actors actually look like, outside of Perrineau? Okay...there's a thumbnail that we can kind of see. I don't get why in casting articles, decent images of the actors aren't an automatic add to the content of the article.

Huh-- sounds like "Liv" is basically the Rachel Weiss character from Constantine. Okay then.

Honestly, I don't care much about this series-- I like John Constantine, but I've never really seen him as a major character. I didn't read the Hellblazer books (though I did like the guy in Justice League Dark), and my familiarity with him started with the movie-- which I liked, but the fans seem to hate for some reason.

So this Constantine series, like the Gotham series, is gonna have to win me over. I'm not gonna get excited for anything until I at least see a pilot-- and while it's not going to be quite as hard of a sell as Gotham will be ("It's a Batman series that's all about Jim Gordon... but set when Bruce Wayne is still a child and none of the supervillains in Gotham exist yet!"), it had better be good if it's gonna share my slim T.V. viewing schedule with the likes of Arrow.

P.S.: Seriously, why couldn't they have just made a Gotham Central T.V. show instead? Would that have been so horrible?

Also, I agree with Ranger14-- if you're writing an article about casting, you NEED to include pictures of the people who've been cast. Especially if you're talking about T.V. actors, who practically number in the billions and who usually haven't done anything all that noteworthy-- and even if they have, the odds that all of your readers would recognize them by name alone are astronomical.

Hellblazer was written for a more mature audience and I honestly hope this show will be, too. Something to push the limits of what can be shown on network tv. John Constantine deserves some really good material to work through. Hope this show can pull it off. Annnnnd, no cig's... no Constantine. Simply put.

Let's hope the show turns out well.

I'm slightly disappointed they casted Eric Northmans sister from True Blood on this show.

Ror@ Yes, I am complaining about lazy article writing. If you feel it should be up to the users to find out who the actors are that you are writing about, I don't know what to tell you. Most professional writers would include images of who is being cast, or images about whatever subject matter they are covering. Never seen a professional journalist tell their readers they need to google the information, but I guess that is the difference between amateur writers on a website like this and professionals.
