Based on the wildly popular comic book series "Hellblazer" from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, "Criminal Minds") is armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and a wickedly naughty wit. He fights the good fight - or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he's decided to abandon his campaign against evil until a series of events thrusts him back into the fray, and he'll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line‎, Constantine will use his skills to travel the country, find the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows... maybe there's hope for him and his soul after all.

CONSTANTINE is set to debut Friday, October 24, 2014 on NBC

Fridays? Why not just cancel it now and save everybody the pain.

I'm still on the fence about this. 1. I was really hoping with all my heart they would make a Hellblazer feature length film that would stay close to the source material. 2. John Constantine without cigarettes is like Superman without muscles. 3. Hellblazer was really dark, and I dunno how far they can push this on a regular TV channel like NBC. 4. John is really the 100% definition of what an anti-hero really is and means, and I'm afraid they might try to water that down to make him a straight "good guy" hero to appeal to the masses. Again, haven't seen the show so not bashing it in the least. What I listed here are just some of my fears. I truly want the show to be good, I just have this nagging feeling I might be getting my hopes up.

@MementoMori Constantine's antiheroism is definitely not watered down in the pilot, so we're in the clear so far. Also, Constantine does smoke, just off-camera. They show him putting out cigarette butts.

This move is an obvious indicator that the show won't last. They call it the "Friday Night Death Slot" for a reason.
