RATINGS: CONSTANTINE Debuts With Solid Numbers Despite Competition From World Series

Constantine finally made its debut on NBC last night, and despite some stiff competition from the World Series, the DC Comics adaptation had a solid start! However, it's going to be next week when we get a better idea of whether it has serious staying power. Hit the jump for details!

According to Variety, Constantine debuted on NBC last night with solid numbers despite the World Series cutting into the viewers for this and many other shows. Early numbers indicate a 1.4 rating/5 share in adults 18-49 and 4.3 million viewers overall at 10pm. That means it retained over 90% of its demo lead in from the season four premiere of Grimm. That did a little better last year, as did the then new show Dracula (that had 5.3 million viewers in total). That fell to a 0.9 rating the following week, so if the same happens to Constantine on Friday, that could be a sign it won't survive. Hopefully that's not the case as reviews have been mostly positive so far and the fact that it held steady during its second half is a good sign. Will you guys be tuning in next week?

Based on the wildly popular DC Comics series "Hellblazer," seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan) specializes in giving hell... hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight - or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he's decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths), the daughter of one of Constantine's oldest friends, he's reluctantly thrust back into the fray - and he'll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it's revealed that Liv's "second sight" - an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences - is a threat to a mysterious new evil that's rising in the shadows. Now it's not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows... maybe there's hope for him and his soul after all.

The pilot was just alright to me.. I can see it has potential though, and Matt Ryan is a solid Constantine! It just needs better writing and pacing and it'll do fine.. I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

Good. I hope it continues to do well. That 10:00 time slot could kill it.

Good for them, but it's on NBC, so it's still on thin ice...

That timeslot is a death sentence. I haven't seen the pilot (don't watch a lot of TV and the character doesn't appeal to me), but I suggest that people who do like it enjoy it while they can.

What's the deal with people judging shows as "amazing" or "best on TV" based on one episode? Flash, Gotham, and Constantine were all praised by some in their first week and the first two had very mediocre pilots.

I guess I just don't go in for cheerleading.

@TheGodButcher Going by your statement, you're saying DC trolls are the only ones to blame for the flame wars...

There is Marvel trolls that start flame wars as well. There is trolls on both sides.
