THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD: Jake Gyllenhaal Says It "Would Be An Honor" To Play The DCU's Batman

Whoever plays the DCU's Batman in The Brave and the Bold will need to share the role with "Elseworlds" actor Robert Pattinson. Is Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal interested? Find out here...

James Gunn is busy shooting SUPERMAN, though fans remain keen to see who the DC Studios co-CEO casts as the DCU's Batman. The Brave and the Bold is somewhere on the horizon - with The Flash's Andy Muschietti attached to direct - but with The Batman II shifting to 2026, who knows when we'll see it.

The common sense approach would have arguably been to either find a way to bring Robert Pattinson's Batman into the DCU or to just leave that movie as a standalone feature (similar to how Joker was originally conceived) and start fresh.

Now, though, we'll soon have two different actors sharing the role of Bruce Wayne in theaters.

Will that confuse moviegoers? It's hard to say, but in an interview with Screen Rant, Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal was asked if he'd be interested in playing Batman after the site compared his role in the upcoming Prime Video title to the Dark Knight.

"Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor," he tells the site. "Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that."

"So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always," Gyllenhaal adds. "Those types of things and those roles are classics."

Some time ago, The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer revealed that he "advocated for Gyllenhaal" to play the title character in 2005's Batman Begins. "I mean, Gyllenhaal’s amazing," he said. "Christian Bale’s amazing, so who knows what."

The actor came close to replacing Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2 after he injured his back working on Seabiscuit and later joined the MCU as Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. There were rumblings Gyllenhaal was being eyed to return in Spider-Man: No Way Home, but for now, Quentin Beck remains dead.

He is, however, expected to make an appearance in What If...? season 3 where he'll presumably be voiced by the Road House star.

Do you think Gyllenhaal would be a good fit for Batman in the new DCU? As always, let us know in the comments section below.

@Doomsday8888 - I'm not too fond of the guy but he definitely could pull it off.

He’d be a good pick. I can see it.

He'd definitley sell tickets, but i prefer Ritchson as far as fancasting. We need another powerhouse to show some physicality

1. Gyllenhaal is a fantastic choice for Batman even if having 2 concurrent Batmen running around feels a bit like overkill
2. That Denzel Othello sounds incredible. Need to see that, hopefully the tickets don’t sell out soon considering it’s a 2025 production

@tmp3 - Its not like theres going to be 2 batmans running around the same movie, people need to stop with this argument.
Audiences are smart enough to tell the difference

@DankMan - they really aren't and focus groups have proved it. For the most part, people either don't care enough to know it's separate, or are dumb.

@SATW42 - One batman is going to be able to fight superman and the other batman can't even beat henchmen. One will lean into the absurdity of the comics and one is a glorified crime drama. I love The Batman, but the DCU Batman will feel nothing like it

Jake Gyllenhaal is my pick. I laugh at the Ritchson fancasting. Just because someone is big does not make them a good choice for Batman.

@BreakTheCode - I’m not fully sold on Ritchson as Batman myself but I can see why people think he would be good

Dude has the physicality and could convey the presence , intensity , intelligence and stoicness of the character.

Dude also has charisma and can be funny which could work for the Bruce Wayne public persona too

Not too sure about the brooding though and I do think he’s physically too big personally (that’s just a personal preference since I prefer Batman not be so bulky).

I really don't see it. Christian Bale is the prototype of what Batman should be!

They need to go with a relatively unknown like Corenswet. This way people don’t get stuck on the celeb.

@valmic - That and someone closer to Corenswet's age. I'm getting sick of all of these older Batman younger Superman dynamics. My vote is for Tom Brittney.
