DEADPOOL: Kevin Feige Comments On Acquiring The Franchise - "Why Would We Change It?"

The biggest surprise coming out of the Disney/Fox acquisition was the survival and persistence of the Deadpool franchise, and it was only a matter of time until Feige himself commented on the gain . . .

Though the rest of the X-Men franchise appears to have been left by the wayside following Disney's recent acquisition of Fox's assets, Deadpool and star Ryan Reynolds seem to have come out as the last ones standing. Teasing his involvement in Disney-distributed projects for some time now, Reynolds' introduction into the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the subject of much speculation.

During an interview with Variety, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige shared his thoughts on the Fox acquisition, as well as the process that went into the decision to keep Reynolds' Merc with a Mouth.

When [Marvel was initially] purchased, [Robert Iger] said to us, ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.' There’s no question that Deadpool is working, so why would we change it?

Feige is a mastermind who never fails to blow the minds of fans. It will be amazing to see the MCU with its newfound potential, with Deadpool playing a key piece in that transition.

Here comes the rain.

Just like you do NOT insult Wham! in Wade Wilson's presence, you do NOT show a lack of respect in front of bro to Olivia Newton John!!!!! NEVER. Oh, that son of a bitch has no clue.

I would say the first one worked far better than the second because of the story. I couldnt give a shit about the kid, he was really annoying and he was the main plot point.

If its going to be in the MCU, my only wonder is if they'll keep Domino, Cable and Colossus. The latter 2 being the most tricky - Colossus never connected to the Apocalypse/Dark Phoenix era of movies, so there might be some leeway. And then obviously there's Brolin with Thanos and Cable...

The only way I can see the supporting characters working is if they're all a version of X-Force from the future.

The supporting cast is the biggest problem.

It's all well and good to have an X-Mansion with Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio and a version of the X-Men when Deadpool was part of a universe we didn't care all that much for, but when he's in the MCU, you can't just be so casual about introducing such concepts.

I'm sorry to say it, but keep Deadpool, lose the rest.

Has to happen.

New characters from the MCU please.

(Oh, you can probably keep the cabbie and maybe Vanessa and Weasel and Blind Al. But the Fox-Men Universe characters have to go).

Sorry, but no.

Deadpool is not the constant wisecracking character that he is displayed as in the recent movies. He is a tortured soul who is completely driven insane by a constant narration and his understanding of his place in the universe because it is a comic/movie/whatever.

In regards to the film series; the actor is great, the costume is great, the supporting cast is 'barely memorable', the story definitely needs improving and the characterisation needs altering because every movie and every joke he makes latches him into the past - unlike jokes in the MCU where the majority do not require knowing anything outside the context of the movie to be funny.

Well no shit.
And since Disney is in the business of making money, why they would exclude a character that’s generates nothing but obscene amounts of it makes no [frick]ing sense.
And because Deadpool is well, is who he is;
He fits anywhere.
Literally.
Anywhere.
Stick that mfker in the Rise of Skywalker.
And watch it blow box office of The Force Awakens the [frick] away.

It's sort of... uncanny, I guess you could say (pun intended), I was thinking that exact phrase: "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Some things are sure to change- as if to say "This is MCU Deadpool now.", but I think it'll stay pretty similar.

If Deadpool, Cable and Colossus already exist in the MCU, how are they going to properly introduce the Xmen from the beginning?

But but but Keviiin... a whole dozen of people on this site claims DP 2 is not good at all and Reynolds' time should be up...

...even though DP2 got rave reviews from critics, fans and made buttload of cash in the middle of the summer, with Solo in its 2nd weekend taking 85 mills.

@Alex35 - People are weird. You had other idiots saying Captain Marvel was a flop and terrible movie bit that got great reviews from critics, fans etc.

This comment section is killing me and cracking me up. So many of y’all seem to “know” exactly what will happen or what should/shouldn’t happen with the character... it’s hilarious. Maybe... just maybe... sit back and relax and let it all unfold. It’s not like you have a say.
I’m also all for speculation... but that’s not really what’s happening here...
