DEADPOOL Movie Helps To Set Up 'Massive' X-MEN Franchise Plans, Insists Simon Kinberg
Beyond taking place within the X-Men cinematic universe, the highly-anticipated Deadpool movie will apparently help tell a larger story that could play out in X-Men: Apocalypse and beyond. Check it out!
X-Men: Days of Future Past screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg reconfirmed to Cinema Blend that the forthcoming Deadpool movie will take place within the same continuity as the X-Men franchise, but that's not all. Apparently, the mutant 4th-wall-breaker's long-awaited solo outing is "setting up for something bigger," per the site. "They do all feed into one another in the sense of wanting to tell this sort of massive story that can take place over multiple movies," said Kinberg, when asked if there is some big idea behind placing Deadpool and other potential standalone movies within the X-Men timeline. The producer then reiterated that Fox's approach to the the shared cinematic universe is much like Marvel Studios' in the sense that you can watch each movie with a full experience, yet there is an "even fuller experience" to see the characters and stories come together and overlap. "We are aware [of that] as we are plotting out X-Men: Apocalypse and the other X-Men movies – both potential sequels in the future and standalone movies – and trying to build them all together so that there is a singularity of vision. And obviously a timeline that makes sense as well, because these movies all, well not all, but many of them take place in different time periods, so that all those things will link up and make sense for an audience."
For the record, there seemed to be a little bit of embellishment on Cinema Bland's part, regarding how Deadpool will help to set up a larger X-Men story in the future, but what do you think? Anyhow, Ryan Reynolds is said to return as Wade Wilson in Deadpool and the movie, directed by Tim Miller, is set for release on February 2, 2016. And later that year, Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse will hit on May 27, starring Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult.
