Deadpool 2 didn't receive the same level of critical acclaim as its predecessor, but the movie was still a hit and the introduction of characters like Cable and Domino delighted fans (the portrayal of X-Force, less so).
Julian Dennison's Russell Collins, a.k.a. Firefist, was also central to the story. The young actor's star was on the rise thanks to a standout performance in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and while his character split opinions, his work in the sequel still impressed.
Now, though, he's confirmed that Marvel Studios hasn't asked him back for Deadpool & Wolverine.
"Unfortunately, you won't [see me in it]," he tells CBR. "But, I'm super excited for people to see it. I'm going to be buying a ticket to go watch it. Hey, it is what it is, what can you do?"
We're surprised a cameo isn't happening, but it seems Marvel Studios' bigger priority was bringing back bigger-name characters from the X-Men franchise's past.
"Funny enough, I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one that's coming out now," Vinnie Jones said last week about being asked to reprise his X-Men: The Last Stand role as Juggernaut. "I spoke to the director, and I just said, 'It's such a drama putting that suit on, mentally and physically.'"
"It had its mental toll as well, because you're in it, and you can't do anything all day. You can only drink from a straw. So, we couldn't strike a deal for Deadpool, but, I mean, Deadpool is my favorite movie of f***ing all time, more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn't have the budget to put me in the suit."
Back to the Deadpool franchise, though, and Josh Brolin has repeatedly said he won't be suiting up as Cable again; Zazie Beetz, meanwhile, has also seemingly dismissed the notion of playing Domino again. The likes of Dopinder and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will return for cameos, though.
Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, which stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfadyen. The movie is written by Ryan Reynolds & Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Zeb Wells & Shawn Levy.
The trades have confirmed that Jennifer Garner will reprise her role as Elektra, with Wesley Snipes, James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Dafne Keen, Channing Tatum, Blake Lively and, as we mentioned above, even singer Taylor Swift among those rumoured to make an appearance.
Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26.
