Deadpool 3 is set to bring Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth into the MCU, though he won't be alone. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine will reportedly join Wade Wilson on a trip through the Multiverse with the Time Variance Authority in hot pursuit.
While much of the action is expected to take place in Fox's X-Men Universe - there's even talk of the original Fantastic Four cast making an appearance - common sense says the movie will end with Deadpool stranded in the MCU. That would be one way to bring the foul-mouthed anti-hero into this shared world, anyway!
Free Guy director Shawn Levy is going to be at the helm of the threequel, while Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin wrote the first draft of the screenplay.
Since then, Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese have made their return to the Marvel franchise, and Deadline reports that they've been joined by Zeb Wells.
The current writer of Marvel Comics' Amazing Spider-Man series, he's no stranger to the MCU.
A supervising producer on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Wells wrote "The Retreat" episode of that Disney+ series and co-wrote The Marvels with Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, and Elissa Karasik. He's also the Head Writer on the animated What If...? spin-off Marvel Zombies.
Reynolds previously confirmed that Deadpool is heading into the MCU when he said, "Most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone, so in this instance, though, you have a collision of two pretty iconic characters that exist in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point."
Along with Reynolds and Jackman, the upcoming threequel is expected to also star Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Owen Wilson, and possibly even Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.
Deadpool 3 is set to be released in theaters on November 8, 2024.
