DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE: Lewis Tan Returns As Shatterstar In New Behind-The-Scenes Photo

The trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine gave us a quick glimpse of Shatterstar, and actor Lewis Tan has now taken to social media to share a new behind-the-scenes look at his return...

Deadpool 2 introduced several members of X-Force... before killing most of them off in various gruesome and hilarious ways in one of the sequel's most memorable sequences.

Zeitgeist, Bedlam, Shatterstar, Vanisher and poor ol' Peter all met their makers, and even though The Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds) did go back in time to save his "Sugar Bear" in the mid-credits scene, it was generally assumed that the others were going to be one-hit wonders.

However, the recent trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine confirmed that Wade must have managed to rescue at least a few of his other pals, as Lewis Tan's alien swordsman can be glimpsed celebrating Mr. Pool's birthday alongside Colossus and Dopinder.

Tan had previously indicated that Wade actually prevented the entire team's demise with Cable's time machine, and was confident that he would be a part of the now defunct X-Force movie.

"You’re going to see more of my character in the X-Force film... that's what it's looking like," he said in an interview back in 2018. "Thankfully, Deadpool went back and had a little time machine that he stole, so in the post-credits scene he brought back Peter, and it’s assumed that we’re all going to come back as well."

Now, the Mortal Kombat actor has taken to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes look at his character to mark the trailer topping the first look at Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the most-viewed teaser of all time.

Quite a few cameos have been lined up for the threequel, including several other X-Men characters (Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey among them), and possibly even Channing Tatum and Taylor Kitsch as different Variants of Gambit.

A recent rumor claimed that Liev Schreiber is also set to reprise his X-Men Origins: Wolverine role as Victor Creed (that appeared to be Tyler Mane in the recent set photos). Variants of the Merc With a Mouth are also rumored to appear, including Dogpool (since confirmed), Kidpool, Lady Deadpool, and more.

The one major return that had been confirmed by the trades is Jennifer Garner as Elektra, but the Alias alum declined to confirm anything in a recent interview.

Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), whose will (reportedly) play Cassandra Nova and a TV Agent named Paradox.

A recent synopsis for the movie reads: "After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis, Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement," the synopsis continues. "He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy."

Lewis Tan is a terrible actor, but Shatterstar has always been a character with a unique look but is boring.

Hopefully they give him some good action and few speaking lines.

@mountainman - I doubt he'll be in it much, especially considering the amount of rumored cameos in the film.

@EgoEgor - I bet there is something near the beginning with the “old X-Force” doing a mission to more or less wrap up that plot thread from 2.

The TVA takes him within the first 20-30 mins I think. So there will just be a little at the beginning with the characters from the other Deadpool movies. Some might come back at the end or later, but likely not Shatterstar.

@xfan320 - I mean, MK fans are toxic as hell when it comes to playing people online. But I would say when it comes to the movies most MK fans are pretty reasonable.

Just do the characters justice, and don't add any stupid BS or changes that no one wants. Like adding a brand new character to be the star of the movie, or the stupid dragon birthmarks that grant them their powers.

Otherwise, I don't think MK fans are that bad when it comes to the movies. They are no where near as bad as other fan bases.

Even near the peak of the Superhero genre, people barely supported the Fox-verse X-Men franchise. We're getting cameos of people nobody was invested in when they actually were given more focus and yet we're going to have a bunch of people just praising it.

We're already seeing Disney recycling dropped concepts from Spider-man: NWH such as Deadpool going back through the MCU and revisiting certain events - such as revisiting AoU, Thor Ragnarok, etc...

@Scarilian - what?! Barley supported...
that couldn't be more wrong. You're either very young and weren't around when that franchise started or you are high af.

People rip on all those films now since marvel started its thing, but back then people couldn't get enough of it. Heck, even the sh1tty X3 and Origins: Wolverine did well because there was mostly no competition.

They produced more good films than bad.
X-Men
X2
First class
The Wolverine
Days of Future Past
DP1
LOGAN
DP2 .......... all good films. That's 8 out of 13. Every franchise has their good and bad films; impossible to avoid

@Scarilian - Also, NWH much? Andrew Garfield, Electro, Lizard, Sandman from Spider-Man 3, etc. etc.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 2/14/2024, 2:34 PM
@ObserverIO -
"NWH much?"
Andrew Garfield was the Spider-man for two films
Electro and Lizard were the main villains of prior films.
Sandman was one of the two main villains from Spider-man 3.

These are characters the audience knows because they were in films that made upwards the region of $700m+ and also they were the focal points of those films.

"Barley supported..."

In terms of audience viewership and financially, they gained a cult following but a majority of the films they released were financially performing only just enough to get a sequel.

Only Logan, Days Of Future Past and Apocalypse made above $500m.

"They produced more good films than bad."

Whether good films or not, nostalgia only works on characters the audience actually knows.

The most likely way a member of the audience will know a character is if the prior media was successful enough. Pyro for example appeared in the Deadpool 3 trailer and nobody recognized him. Aspects like that demonstrate that they can't bank on the nostalgia factor of the Fox-Verse X-Men franchise.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/14/2024, 3:24 PM
@Scarilian - Relative to the times in which they were released, the franchise was a very well known and popular success. X-Men 2000 only grossed $296.3 million, but it was one of the highest grossing films of the year and an audience favorite. It also directly and single-handedly kick-started the superhero boom. It made a star out of Hugh Jackman, who everyone associates with the role even today.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 2/14/2024, 6:11 PM
@ObserverIO -
2000 - X-Men: $296.3m ($75m budget, a success)
2003 - X-Men 2: $407.7m ($110-$125m budget, a success)
2006 - X-Men 3: $460.4m ($210m budget, likely just broke even)
2011 - First Class: $353.6m ($140-$160m budget,likely just broke even)
2014 - Days Of Future Past: $746m ($205m budget, a success)
2016 - Apocalypse: $543.9m ($178m budget, a success)
2019 - Dark Phoenix: $252.4m ($200m budget, a box office bomb)

Average box office: $437.19m (Rounded up)
Removing DofP & Dp: $412.38m

The X-Men brand currently is so financially non-viable that any budget over $200m means they likely won't make profit, this may be a factor as to why Marvel have not made an X-Men film yet but instead are electing to use them to promote other projects.

This is why they are using the more successful Deadpool brand as a method of trying to re-hype interest in the X-Men.
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/15/2024, 4:26 AM
@Scarilian - And Wolverine. The last Wolverine film grossed $619.2 million on a $97-127 million budget.

I had no idea that First Class barely broke even. People love that movie and it really helped propel J-Law's career after Hunger Games.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 2/17/2024, 11:24 AM
@ObserverIO -
Yeah, it's why they are using Deadpool's branding and Wolverine's branding in the hopes the combination would be enough to hit $1bn - as Deadpool 3 definitely has a budget of around $250m or higher - along with it being one of the few Disney films this year.
