Prior to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the studio was planning a third Deadpool movie, but it would have been a very different threequel to Marvel Studios' upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine.

We've heard a few things about Fox's ideas for the project over the years, but were never sure exactly how close the movie came to entering production before the takeover. Now, Karan Soni, who will reprise the role of Dopinder in Deadpool and Wolverine, and shared some intriguing new details.

Screen Rant spoke to Soni at SXSW about his new film, A Nice Indian Boy, and the actor revealed that he actually spilled some plot details to writer Roshan Sethi when they first met.

"They're not telling me anything, which is good. Honestly, to bring it back to Roshan [Sethi], on our first date I recapped the plot of Deadpool 3, which I wasn't supposed to. This was the Fox version, which didn't get made because the studio got sold or whatever. But we just met, and I was desperate to impress him, and I just blurted the entire thing. I told him Hugh Jackman was gonna be in it - this was years before. All to say I didn't get a script this time, thank God! They didn't even tell me the trailer was coming out. I got to watch it when it came out, and I'm excited to be a small part of it."

Soni was then asked if he could share the outline.

"Yes, I think it's online a little bit, so I can. It was going to be originally a roadtrip movie where Deadpool tries to save Christmas, so we all go to the North Pole."

Ryan Reynolds has previously mentioned the road trip premise, but this is the first we've heard of Fox's Deadpool 3 being a Christmas movie. Of course, The Merc With a Mouth has already appeared in the Holiday-themed PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 titled Once Upon a Deadpool.

It certainly sounds like it could have been a lot of fun - especially if Jackman's Logan was involved even back then - but with Wade and Wolvie set to make their MCU debut this year, we can't imagine too many fans being disappointed about the revamp.

Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Rob Delaney (Peter), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) And Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) will all return as their respective characters, and they'll be joined by franchise newcomers Emma Corrin (The Crown) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession), who will play a TV agent and Cassandra Nova (not confirmed).

A recent synopsis for the movie reads: "After facing some professional setbacks while going through a midlife crisis, Wade Wilson decides to officially retire Deadpool and becomes a used car salesman. But when his friends, family, and the whole world are at stake, Deadpool decides to bring his katanas out of retirement," the synopsis continues. "He recruits an unwilling and wary Wolverine to not only fight for their survival, but ultimately, their legacy."

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool and Wolverine from a script by Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells.

The movie is set to open in U.S. & Canadian theaters on July 26, and will be available in IMAX, RealD 3D, Dolby Cinema, 4DX, Cinemark XD and premium screens everywhere.

That sounds pretty insufferable tbh. What we’re getting is for sure going to be better.

@TheLobster - comparing an upcoming movie to a movie that will never exist, isn't really giving the upcoming movie much praise lol

@DarkeyeZ - the trailer alone has a better premise than this so idk what to tell ya

@TheLobster - I dunno. A DP3 without the TVA might be nice. Time will tell.

@DarkeyeZ - It's comparing the concept of the two movies and what we're getting sounds far better.

They were for sure going to have the mutant Santa Claus be a villain

I can see some being dissapointed by that if it had happened but a Deadpool Christmas movie with a full R Rating could have been hilarious.

Sounds silly, but I also chuckled when I read it. Would have been fun, but this will have more weight.

If this is the movie that fixes the MCU, I'm really hoping they Once Upon a Deadpool this one, too.

I can kinda see the logic in that. As described by Deadpool's narrations, the first movie was a "love story" and the second one a "family film", so the third one would have been a "christmas movie".

Deadpool proves that MCU has good writers available. If they can take a character like Deadpool and make THREE good movies, there's no reason to for Cap 4 or F4 to be a sub par whatsoever.

The Indian Spider-Man! The Brown Panther!

And as we all know, the name Dopinder is of course Hindi for Deadpool.

Sounds like a much more fun and somewhat original concept, the visuals of Deadpool killing people with the snowy backdrop would stand out well along with the general visuals of Deadpool's outfit in a Christmas setting. A more focused storyline on Deadpool and Wolverine would also be better than the sloppy TVA filled mess we are getting from Disney.
