The solo film, possibly titled X-Men Origins: Deadpool, was originally announced as possibly being in the works as early as May 6th. Today, however, Marvel Comics updated the article with official confirmation that the film is going into development.

The Deadpool film will be produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel, with Reynolds reprising the role of Wade Wilson/Deadpool, the "Merc with the Mouth." The film is expected to explore Deadpool's origins and motivations.

Awesome. Was waiting for Marvel to actually be the ones who confirmed it or addressed the status of the film. Hope they do it some justice.

Yeah, I heard they were making it, but I've heard that about many, many, many other films, so confirmation from Marvel is huge!

@ladsonb190: If you don't care about Deadpool, why did you bother to read the article?

I'm not sure what they could do with Deadpool in a feature. It seems like, if they're going to commit x-million dollars to making a movie, there are many better characters to choose from.

From what I gather from the announcement, the only Fox involvement is Donner, and I remember that XO:W was done in association with Marvel studios, so maybe this was why. As it appears Marvel is doing this, I think we can all relax about the costume issue. Wouldn't the sharing of this character between the studios imply hope that X-Men could be tied into the Movie Marvel U that is developing. I think it speaks well for the future of the X-Men franchise.

How this news comes before the announcement of "THE GAMBIT MOVIE" is completely beyond me!

Gambit has a much bigger following...
Gambit's character had more screen time...
Gambit's Orgin story is MUCH, MUCH more compelling...
Gambit's character was developed more in the movie...
Gambit is just better! (<---might be a bit biased, lol)

And when they do make a Gambit movie, i better hear some damn "Mon Ami's" and "Cherie's" or i'll be PISSED!!!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 5/12/2009, 3:21 PM
Well, Gambit is certainly more popular, but Taylor Kitch came out a lot worse in the movie than Ryan Reynolds, despite more screen time. His scene at the poker table was fine but what the hell happened to him after that! He started playing Gambit as a fruity flyboy. When he turns to Wolverine after "saving" him from the falling bricks and says "did you miss me" in that incredibly gay way, the whole theater i was in groaned!..so anyway, thats prob why they decided to go with DP first, because of the positive fan feedback.

wait so i guess if donner and marvel are producing this, fox has no part in it and possibly screwing it up?

@Bohemiben- I hope it will take place after decapitation but they should have flashbacks to explain why he went into the program to begin with.

@Rorschach01-Lol! I do not think though it was Taylor's entire fault though. The director should have "directed" him in the right way by making sure he kept using his cajun accent. He could have said "mon ami" just once Hell even in X1 wolverine only used "bub" once even though Jackman would try to incorporate it in more scenes. And yeah I would rather there be a Gambit movie. I like Deadpool but I am not a diehard fan. Like Talontd
stated Gambit has more of a history than Deadpool.

Don't want to burst anyones bubble, but DEADPOOL has always been linked for WOLVERINE and a spin off!!! Why should GAMBIT be first lol??

DEADPOOL'S 10 times better anyway than GAMBIT, GAMBIT was only put in WOLVERINE for his own spin off, like most of 'em at the last minute!

Well as long as FOX don't F it up (again), an do a real DEADPOOL movie that is, DEADPOOL'S gonna be good! ; )

Gambit is cool enough, but i was never a massive fan. Im not really sure why, i guess the rogueish loner thing was taken by Wolverine and i didnt feel i needed another one! He has some great moments in the comics though.

After watching WOLVERINE : SNORIGINS ... i can honestly say i dont care, not even in the slightest. tO EVERYONE WHO LIKED THAT TURD, I HOPE YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE FROM THIS DEADPOOL MOVIE. Just admit it out loud and on forums and maybe someone at Fox might hear ... or concede defeat and lower your standards, quit dreaming and quit being an Idealist and just shut yer mouth and take what they give you. Oddly that does sound appealing , hell i think i might go see this movie afterall. shoot..

SirPrize @ : D Heh heh heh lmao, but dude im kinda a big fan of DEADPOOL like WOLVERINE so, that's probably why i don't like X-MEN BORIGINS: TURDERINE!!!

Infact PUNISHER/WOLVERINE/DEADPOOL/VENOM are all in my top Marvel Universe characters, so you can see why im a tad bitter with the movies that came out! (every single one got HOLLYWOOD BUMMED). : D

An all you lot defending FOX, just look an see alot of people have had enough, an i don't see why we should just settle for crap or okay, hell even the cartoons on tv are better?!?

Grif @ I hope they some how ignore that movie and get to the red & black spandex Merc with the Mouth!!! ; )

There is no keeping Fox away from this movie. Deathmetalbrian is right on the money with that one. Marvel has always had involvement in all the X-Men movies, but Fox owns the rights and has the final say on everything for the most part.

The biggest mistake they can make with this movie (and probably will) is filling it with ancillary characters. If they focus on the humor and action of Deadpool and keep the additional mutants to a minimum (quality over quantity) this can be a great movie.

SO does this means that Marvel will do it? or it'll be Fox?? because if it is Fox the movie might sucks. but if Marvel do it then it will be OK.

Iv'e actually read somewhere that reynold and those involved with the devolopment have actually taken a cue from Hugh Jackman and told FOX to basically back the [frick] off. All FOX are there for is funding, and maaking profit, not screwing with the production.
