ARROW Actor Manu Bennett Shows His Support For Joe Manganiello's Big-Screen Take On DEATHSTROKE

We recently got confirmation that former True Blood actor Joe Manganiello would be suiting up as Deathstroke in The DCEU, but how does that sit with the man who's been playing Slade Wilson on Arrow?...

Warning: SPOILERS for the Justice League post-credits scene follow.

A lot of fans were delighted to see Joe Manganiello finally suit-up as Slade Wilson in the after-credits scene of Justice League, but there are also many that feel that we already have a damn fine interpretation of the character on The CWs Arrow.

Manu Bennett's Deathstroke is widely regarded as one of the highlights of the show, and viewers have often campaigned to see him make the transition to the big screen (clearly unperturbed by the fact that the show has no connection to the DCEU). However, the man himself seems quite happy to keep evolving his TV take on the villain, and has nothing put praise and support for Manganiello.

Here's what Bennett had to say at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest in San Jose:

“To be honest, when he was announced to do this role, I was very very happy for him. Of course, I was a little bit disappointed that I wouldn’t get to do such a wonderful opportunity of getting onto that big screen with Deathstroke. But listen, I have had the wonderful opportunity to be a TV actor, and to spend the time it takes to cook a character. And sometimes, I don’t think you get that chance when you’re on the big screen. But as for Joe’s ability to get up there and do this character, I’m behind him, I hope, as much as everybody else is behind him.

We have a word in Maori, called “tatoko”, which means to give somebody your best feeling of support. And I give Joe my best feeling of support, and I hope he gets up there and does a [frick]ing great job."

Manganiello is expected - though not yet confirmed - to reprise the role of Slade Wilson for Matt Reeves' Batman movie.

Tell us, do you think he'll match-up to Bennett's incarnation? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Manu is awesome as ds, he saves Arrow from being completely rubbish

@Obi2 - Yeah, but I guess he's done as Deathstroke now. It seemed like a definitive exit when he walked away down that smokey street in the last Arrow ep he was in.

@Buckster10 -

Or he's getting his own show.
Angel made the exact same exit on Buffy.

Manu will probably still end up being better than him.

Joe will benefit from better action and choreography, maybe even better writing, but I think Manu nails Slade as a character and gives him a humanity and depravity that sticks.

He's gonna have a tough time topping Manu. He's one of the best parts of Arrow. Season 1-2 was great! Everything after...not so much. Just my opinion.

@TheStranger - did you see season 5

@JSamueliaml8 - No, I stuck through season 3 and 4 and felt like it was really terrible and held out hope it would get better. Then when they hit me with the "guns are bad" episode I facepalmed my way through it and just couldn't do it anymore. They lost me after that one. I won't bore you with my countless opinions, but it definitely felt like the lowest point of a show with immense potential that was criminally squandered. I would've felt too hypocritical loving and supporting season 1&2 as much as I did, and then sticking around and approving of what they did in 3-5. I just couldn't do it. Nothing against those who enjoy it though.

Manganiello's Deathstroke costume needs work. They should have went with metallic orange/copper.

Nice for supporting him.

I hope next year Slade has a slot in the next crossover. I think he would add a nice middle, grey moral ground for both the heroes and villains. I'll cross fingers.
