THE LITTLE MERMAID Adds DUNKIRK Actor And One Direction Singer Harry Styles As Prince Eric

Singer-turned-actor Harry Styles (Dunkirk) is reportedly in talks to play Prince Eric in Disney's live-action remake of 1989 animated classic, The Little Mermaid.

According to THR, Styles is in early negotiations for the role and would star alongside up-and-coming actress and singer Halle Bailey (Grown-Ish). This duo's casting would seem to suggest that Disney plans to make the music a more central part of this new take on the story, as Eric didn't actually perform any songs in the original.

Also set to go under the sea are Melissa McCarthy as the villainous sea-witch Ursula, and Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina as Flounder and Scuttle, respectively.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also work on original music for Mermaid along with composer Alan Menken.

What do you guys make of this casting news? The Little Mermaid is scheduled to go into production early next year.
