Disney has released a new minute-long trailer for The Little Mermaid (via Toonado.com) that finally gives Jacob Tremblay the chance to shine as Flouder. We've caught a few glimpses of Ariel's fishy friend before now, of course, but this is the first time we've seen him speak!
There are also some terrific shots of Ursula and King Triton, while another glimpse of Sebastian is also welcomed (fingers crossed we get to hear more from him soon too).
Meanwhile, over on SFFGazette.com, we recently shared a fresh batch of character posters that offer a closer look at all the reboot's characters.
Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, and Prince Eric are among the live-action leads given the spotlight here, while we also get perhaps our best look yet at CG creations Sebastian, Scuttle, and Flounder. Fans of the 1989 classic have wondered how they would be brought to life on screen and we'd say this adaptation has nailed it.
Yes, they're not quite as stylised as their animated counterparts, but there's a good mix of reality and fantasy here (don't forget, this trio has to talk and sing).
You can check out the trailer and posters for The Little Mermaid below.
In The Little Mermaid, the youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart.
She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
The Little Mermaid stars singer and actress Halle Bailey as Ariel, Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
Helmed by filmmaker Rob Marshall, the movie opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.
