12 YEARS A SLAVE Star Chiwetel Ejiofor In Talks For Leading Role In DOCTOR STRANGE

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Children of Men) missed out on playing the villain in Spectre, but he's now in early talks with Marvel Studios to take on a leading role in Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch? Will he be Baron Mordo or The Ancient One? You can find out the latest details here...

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Chiwetel Ejiofor is being courted for an unspecified leading role in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange. Things are at an early stage right now, but the site points out that "Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role but some insiders have pooh-poohed that." Obviously, that doesn't really clear things up all that much! If he is playing the movie's main bad guy, that would likely be Baron Mordo, but Rush star Daniel Bruhl (who will first appear in Captain America: Civil War) has also been rumoured for that part. The Wrap however claim that he might be playing The Ancient One which would be interesting!

Regardless, production is expected to begin once Captain America: Civil War finishes shooting and casting for Doctor Strange is still in the early stages.
Ejiofor delivered an Academy Award nominated performance in 12 Years a Slave, and with villainous roles in the likes of Serenity and Children of Men on his CV, he'll make for a great Baron Mordo if that is the role he's being eyed for!

I don't think Daniel Bruhl is in the STRANGE universe; Variety probably typo'd/misheard that part of the info when that scoop was dropped.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up just being a normal friend in Dr. Strange's life.. He doesn't HAVE to be a major player. Perhaps a fellow surgeon?

@xfan320 You're not casting Ejiofor, coming off an Academy nominated (should've won) role, to play "a normal friend". Marvel knows that.

I'd prefer him to be in Black Panther.

Marvel definitely wanted younger looking (Boseman and Ejiofor are roughly the same age) for Black Panther since him, Strange and Captain Marvel? are likely the next trio to lead Phase 4 and beyond.

Lol at people saying he needs a "bigger role" preemptively. The shade-throwing is real on this site.

I could see Keith David or Mad Mikkelsen as Dormammu. Or better yet, give Mad any role

Boseman is 38 and Ejiofor is 37.

With how Ejiofor had that beard going and how young Chadwick looks, thought maybe Ejiofor could be T'Chaka in a flashback if he's dead.

Chiwetel and Benedict Cumberbatch in the same movie...

Unless Marvel is planning Thunderbolts, get these actors away from these one and done villain roles. And it would be super duper nice if he didn't play the white heroes sidekick. Rhodes and Wilson I love em but they play bitch to the others.

Haters can't handle that Marvel Studios may have snatched up TWO great black actors, so they talk about wasted roles. Denial isn't just a river in Egypt.

Lol no. Tired of all these heroes fighting one another. Let's let the villains play. Besides Sinister Six. [frick] them.
