DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS Seemingly Cut A Major Variant From The Movie - SPOILERS

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seemingly underwent a lot of changes during reshoots, and resurfaced merchandise serves as a reminder that one key Variant ended up on the cutting room floor.

We heard multiple reports about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness undergoing extensive reshoots, and it's widely believed that they streamlined the story and added a couple of huge cameos. Even with The Illuminati we got, the sequel felt like it was lacking surprise appearances, and it's no wonder Bruce Campbell's Balder was switched out for Mister Fantastic and Black Bolt.

It was recently revealed that Deadpool was briefly considered for the Doctor Strange sequel, but some merchandise that first surfaced last month reminds us that we were supposed to see a Wong Variant.

We shared this on the site when it was first revealed, but now we've seen the movie, it seems apparent that there were once plans for "Defender Wong" to be in that opening scene. Once again looking back at early plot leaks, it appears he was going to be killed in that action-packed sequence before Stephen Strange's Variant also met his maker at the hands of the demon unleashed by the Scarlet Witch.

Rintrah, another character heavily featured in merchandise, was still part of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but his role was reduced to the point that he made little more than a cameo. This also contradicts early reports that he was Strange's pupil and struck up a bond with America Chavez.

Ultimately, reshoots are a big part of how Marvel Studios makes movies, and it's not as if what we got here was as butchered as Justice League or Morbius. It's always fun to think about what might have been, though, and in this blockbuster's case, there are clearly a lot of deleted scenes on the shelf...

I wonder if the Illuminati members are getting merch when all is said and done. I know they'd make excellent Hot Toys figures.

It's a bit strange as to why they went with Krasinski instead of Grufford. In fact it would have been iconic if they had the entire F4 from the Fox films including Chris Evans as that world's variants with both Strange and Wanda completely baffled that Human Torch looks just like their Steve Rogers. Missed opportunity.

@SonOfAGif - It would have made much more sense, given that Grufford's FF and Stewart's X-Men were originally meant to exist in the same universe.

@SerKurtWagner - Exactly. And it would have made sense with Captain Carter being there as she was the "super soldier" of that universe. And they could have still kept Captain Marvel (Rambeau) as well. Instead of being the Illuminati it could have just been The Future Foundation. Maybe even have had Halle Berry cameo as Storm as well.

@SonOfAGif

Oof….I really don’t like the sound of that no offense, haha.

@SonOfAGif - I agree. That would have made more sense, IMO. A Future Foundation of Fox's original Reed, Sue, Ben plus Xavier and one or two surviving X-Men (Storm, Rogue, Ice-Man) would have honestly had a bigger impact.

@SonOfAGif - Sure, it would’ve been cool. But I like the idea that every member of the Illuminati could potentially return in some form. Peggy and Maria will probably show up again. Patrick Stewart has already spilled the beans on talks of him returning. Mordo will for sure be back. Even Blackbolt could show up if Feige wants to reboot Inhumans. If Gruffudd returned, it would be a cameo for the sake of a cameo because MS will for sure want a new FF cast. At least with Krasinski as Reed we have the possibility of him returning. If he doesn’t, then all of this will go down as some very silly fan service.

@SonOfAGif - I think it's very possible they asked Grufford and he said no. I don't know if it's still the case but he has had a lot of issues with his ex, Alice Evans, her mental health, and custody of their kids. He got a restraining order against her in Feb of this year. He may not have had the time or will.

Who's the illuminati of this site? My picks would be:

Doctor1225 = captain Carter
Ghost dog = Reed
Spock = professor x
Porg = captain marvel
Regularmovieguy = black bolt
= mordo?

@MyCoolYoung -

I honestly wouldn't be on the team. I would be the janitor pointing and laughing at everyone being murdered🙆
