Kevin Feige Reveals New DOCTOR STRANGE Details On Mads Mikkelsen's Villainous Role

On the heels of the first look at Benedict Cumerbatch in Doctor Strange, Entertainment Weekly has now offered first details on Mads Mikklesen’s role as the Sorcerer Supreme’s main antagonist. Unfortunately, we still don’t have an identity for the character, but Marvel Studios president of production, Kevin Feige, has offered big hints regarding how the mystery villain comes into play.

“We will take audiences through sort of a guide to the multiverse, other dimensions, and there are amazing things out there — wonders that are going to be hopefully visually extremely interesting and unique to this movie,” Feige said. “But there are also very scary things in these other dimensions.” After reassuring that it’s sorcerers like Doctor Strange’s and the Ancient One’s responsibility to keep such things away from humanity, Kevin Feige teased that Mads Mikklesen’s character has other things in mind. “Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect,” Feige revealed. “[He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”

As to why we don’t have a name for Mads Mikklesen’s villainous character to accompany EW’s first look at Doctor Strange, which has come just two months after filming began, executive producer Stephen Broussard told the magazine: “I’ve seen lots of names thrown around. No one has quite picked the name that we’ve chosen for him. It would be fun to conceal that, if we can.” Does this mean Strange’s main villain will be an original character? Probably not, but who do you think it is?

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange so far stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), Amy Landecker, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West), with Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Mads Mikklesen, and the long-awaited movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on November 4, 2016.
