Mads Mikkelsen Eyed For DOCTOR STRANGE Lead Villain
It seems Mads Mikkelsen has popped back up on Marvel Studios' radar as new reports indicate the actor is being courted for another big role, this time in Doctor Strange opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.
According to Variety, Mads Mikkelsen has just entered talks with Marvel Studios to potentially join the cast of Doctor Strange. There is no word on which character he might portray, but the source suggests it will be another villain to rival Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo. Although there is no offer on the table yet, "one is expected shortly" as there is mutual interest for the Hannibal star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You might recall that Mads Mikkelsen initially signed on to play Thor: The Dark World villain Malekith the Accursed. However, the actor had to drop out of the Marvel sequel due to scheduling, and that role was evidently given to Christopher Eccleston. However, perhaps things will work out on Doctor Strange. If so, Mikkelsen would join Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), and Tilda Swington (The Ancient One). Directed by Scott Derrickson, the movie is scheduled to start shooting in November with a November 4, 2016, release date.
