Mads Mikkelsen Eyed For DOCTOR STRANGE Lead Villain

It seems Mads Mikkelsen has popped back up on Marvel Studios' radar as new reports indicate the actor is being courted for another big role, this time in Doctor Strange opposite Benedict Cumberbatch.

According to Variety, Mads Mikkelsen has just entered talks with Marvel Studios to potentially join the cast of Doctor Strange. There is no word on which character he might portray, but the source suggests it will be another villain to rival Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor's Baron Mordo. Although there is no offer on the table yet, "one is expected shortly" as there is mutual interest for the Hannibal star to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You might recall that Mads Mikkelsen initially signed on to play Thor: The Dark World villain Malekith the Accursed. However, the actor had to drop out of the Marvel sequel due to scheduling, and that role was evidently given to Christopher Eccleston. However, perhaps things will work out on Doctor Strange. If so, Mikkelsen would join Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), and Tilda Swington (The Ancient One). Directed by Scott Derrickson, the movie is scheduled to start shooting in November with a November 4, 2016, release date.

[frick] YES.

Marvel, please don't make him a one-and-done villain, especially if he's playing Dormammu.

Cumberbatch, Ejiofor, Swinton, McAdams (?) and Mikkelsen.

Such apathy. Marvel's cynic when casting - particularly villains.

Especially J.K Simmons. I don't care how or why Feige, just bring that son of a bitch to the MCU and no one will mind!

@NELLOGISTICS Totally understandable. I really do hope he isn't a one-and-done villain.

On the other hand I had no idea (or I forgot) he was in the running for Malekith. Bittersweet. Doctor Strange is about to be insane

@MisterHolmes @MrCBM56 And ROGUE ONE is only a three-month shoot, and who knows how the schedule lines up; doubt Mikkelsen will be tied up for all three months.

Kind of crazy thinking how far we've gotten from hearing the name "Stephen Strange" in The Winter Soldier to Mads Mikkelsen being in talks for Dormammu. Great times indeed.

@Reasonnnn It's really bittersweet. On one hand he would've owned the role but on the other, Malekith was so wasted. I probably enjoy Marvel villains more than most, with two only being dreadful I think, which you can probably guess which. That said, Marvel would REALLY benefit off having more we love to hate and having them stick around.

Would've been a great choice for Baron Mordo. Wonder who Marvel is eyeing him for then?

WOW! Dr. Strange has such an awesome cast. I can't wait for BvS and CW but I think Suicide Squad and Dr. Strange will be the better films, just based on their casts alone...

@MrMartyMarvel Chiwetel Ejiofor is Baron Mordo
ScarletWarlock

If he is not playing Dormammu, and doing only this movie's villain, I would like for them to set up Baron mordo as Strange's friend at first, then have him betrya him at the end, which obviously leads into the sequel. What I think would be really interesting is if Chiwetel was actually just straight up Brother Voodoo and Mads ended up being Mordo. Regardless of the outcome I imagine it will be really good. Oh, and I'll chime in with everyone else, this cast(with or without Mads, though he would crank up the talent big time regardless) is phenomenal.
