Roman Coppola Would Still Be Interested In A DOCTOR STRANGE Movie

We've already heard from the Oscar nominated director on his earlier plans to direct a movie featuring Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme, now while talking to Flickering Myth he offers a few more details. He also weighs in on the current state of Marvel CBMs.

Roman (son of Francis) Coppola has already revealed that he met with Stan Lee and Marvel a long time ago when the best they had to offer the big screen was the likes of that original Roger Corman produced Fantastic Four movie. He had wanted to speak to them about perhaps helming an adaptation of another one of their comic characters, with an eye on his particular favorite, Dr Strange. Of course we now know that a Dr. Strange movie will likely spearhead Marvel's "Phase 3" lineup of films, so would Coppola fancy another stab at it? While speaking to Flickering Myth he seems interested - if asked - but also hints that he'd like to make it a standalone movie, not connected to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe..

“Nowadays it’s over saturated with so many comic book movies. It has lessened in my mind. In the past, 15 to 20 years ago, when I talked about Doctor Strange most of the comic book movies were terrible. They’ve [I’m speaking of the Marvel Universe] managed to make them more true to the spirit of the comics as I recall reading them as a boy. If someone said to me, ‘We’d love you to do Doctor Strange. Run with it. What’s your take on it?’ I’d be delighted to have a shot at that but it seems that many comic book movies are made with a certain mentality that pervades all of them. If I had my choice I’d rather do an individualistic than a factory movie but you never know. I’m open to whatever adventure comes my way.”

How would you feel if Coppola Jr. got the gig?

I'm always happy to see any Coppola in a comic book movie. I even love Sofia Coppola's movies.

Back when he was taking about this, Cage probably would have made a great DR. Strange! The man CAN act, he just chooses not to bother these days..or he's lost it, one or the other. Doesn't take away from the fact that he's given some excellent performances over the years.

If he didn't have that famous last name we wouldn't even glance at the article, even then it's a waste of time. If a man can't maintain the area between his eyebrows how would he manage a multimillion dollar project?

He wanted Nic Cage because he's a Coppolla.

They're related, and byt the first family of 70s hollywood no less.

This is why Sophia Coppola, arguably the only actress worse than Winona Ryder, beat out Winona Ryder in GFIII.

Cage lost a fortune to embezzlement I heard. Thus the crap movies are to build his fortune again. At least that's the rumor

@Kamen Face/Off is an awesome flick! One of my favorite 90's films!

On the topic of the article, I'm not feeling this guy. I'd go with Yates or Del Toro for the good doctor.

No thanks to this Coppola. Francis Ford? Maybe. Think about. A Dr Strange movie made in the same style as his Bram Stoker's Dracula. Could work, but F F Coppola is getting a little long in the tooth. I don't know. Back in the day, I think Cronenberg (The Fly w/Jeff Goldblum and Night Breed) would've worked. I want this movie to be great. But I am a little leary.
